How are gas supplies in your area?
I drove by my friendly neighborhood Shell station yesterday and they are out of regular-leaded gasoline. They have no idea when they will get more, and mid-grade and premium are quickly running out as well. The price for regular shot up from $2.56 to $2.94 on Tuesday, then briefly down to $2.91 and this morning it was back up to $2.95. It is frightening to see the gas running out in my own neighborhood.

10 cents more each for the high priced spreads. People on my van pool were talking this morning about spending 60 - 80 dollars to fill up their trucks or SUVs. One lady said, "glad I still drive my little Honda".

7. When I finally found gas I paid
$3.09 per gallon

I had to fill up because I was almost empty and need the car to get myself and the toddler to and from work and daycare.

$43.50 well spent dollars?

But...I told my Dad that it still wasn't quite as much as I paid to fill up a SMALLER tank while doing research in Spain in 1998...

it was $1.349 at the same station this morning.

Now, we get fluctuations that are way more frequent than you do. It's not unusual for our prices to rise or fall $0.10 / litre in a day, and it always goes up the Friday before a long weekend.

28. Especially as demand here doesn't seem to have risen
Not really. I haven't seen lines ANYWHERE at ANY station here. So, with demand virtually unchanged, the gas has run out at many stations. Unreal.

Oh, and I bought gas yesterday afternoon at $2.75/gallon - a 30 cent increase from the day before. Last night, the same gas was $2.99/gallon. And that's regular unleaded.

Making trips to the store? Stockpile essentials. You'll still use them over time and it'll help you if deliveries to stores decline soon. And, I'm afraid, they certainly will.

I just came from the store and I bought a lot of meat, milk, etc. Essentials. It seems that I'm not the only one in the area worried about something bad happening, water and milk were nearly gone. As was chicken and ground beef. And the cashier lines were pretty long. It looked like it usually does before a big snow storm. I think we're about to get a storm of another kind...

85. Went out to get groceries today, only the second time this week
we've used the car, do most trips via motorcycle now. Lady told me her traffic today has been the heaviest of the entire week, and that stations in White Springs are running out. The following from Tallahassee Democrat.

http://www.tallahassee.com/mld/tallahassee/news/local/12539847.htm

<snip>
"As of today, our state has 187 million gallons of (petroleum products) ... and 148 million gallons of that is gasoline," said Gov. Jeb Bush at a news conference where he urged state residents to conserve energy and not get caught up in panic buying.

Bush said Florida normally uses about 23 million gallons of gasoline a day, but noted that since Hurricane Katrina struck "the increase in consumption has been fairly dramatic."
That increase was obvious in Tallahassee on Thursday as gas stations across the area ran out of fuel, even though wholesalers, terminal officials in Bainbridge, Ga., and a spokesman for a gasoline pipeline in Atlanta said there was no shortage.

<snip>

Across the Southeast, the governors of Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina as well as Pennsylvania asked residents to curb discretionary driving and instead stay home this weekend to conserve gasoline.
Bush did not tell vacationers to stay home, but he did ask residents to curtail driving and watch their thermostats to reduce energy consumption. He also said all state agencies would take steps to cut energy use and was joined in the effort by Leon County and the city of Tallahassee, both of which also announced energy-saving moves.

37. no clue...
the local media are barely acknowledging that gas prices are anything unusual (cheapest gas I've seen this morning and last night - $2.99 a gallon, other stations at $3.19)

Our local NBC affiliate DOESN'T MENTION gas prices on the homepage of their site (ok, there's a national story link about crude prices dropping) The CBS affiliate has a story on how high gas prices won't keep people from traveling this weekend.

Why would any fool make threats against an invisible poster? 63. I asked a question and expected an answer.
That question was not controversial. I didn't say anything like "Dean sucks! Clark rules" where I should expect a flamewar. You flaming me over this is as stupid and pointless as the chicken flamewar in the lounge a few months ago.

If you felt my question was meaningless you could have ignored it. You could have moved on to another thread. I do that all the time. I don't go in threads that I find meaningless. I DO NOT go into the thread and attack the op. And yes, you attacked me. You screamed at me and made idiot comments about getting high. You think you know me? You think you can assume I get high? You don't know shit about me, so just take your fucking bad attitude somewhere else.

I have made it a point not to put anyone on ignore because everyone has the right to their opinion. Just like I have the right to post a question about gas supplies without some keyboard warrior jumping all over me for it.

What exactly do you think you are going to accomplish by attacking other DUers? Seriously. You have not answered that question yet. Do you think all the water in NO will quietly flow away because you attacked me? Do you think you're the only one upset over what is going on? Do you think you're the only one who got pissed off watching Bush and his ugly phony mug on TV kissing those kids just for the photo-op? Well? Should all of DU revolve around LaPera and only post things he approves of?

And yes, I had my caps on. Because the only hope I have for this country is Democratic Underground. And when people like you go around attacking people like me over something "silly" it just pisses me off and makes me want to lose hope more than anything Chimpy McFucknob could ever say or do.

I indeed gave you my opinion... I told you the price of gas ($3.49) in my area, and that, "we have plenty of it". That's a fact. I answered your question. Isn't that what you asked for?

In so much as I also gave you my opinion... Again, on how I thought your post was silly and meaningless and something one could find in any newspaper and/or any search engine. My opinion. and it seemed you were not able to handle it. Once again, It was just MY opinion. Fact; that we all invite with the posting of a thread.

People don't always agree with me either Skippy, however, I always respond with my ideas and where I'm coming from and I love to debate them...Hence, the wonderful DU forum...But I never, ever attack them...

So please, don't get so upset if one disagrees with you... don't let the ego get in the way and RELAX!

Oh yes, BTW... this has nothing to do with my ego, buddy. This has everything to do with people's minds going to shit because they're sad and pissed off. This has everythign to do with one DUer turning on another for the most jackass reason I could ever think of.

58. Dude, calm down for a sec
We're all angry. That's perfectly understandable. But there's no reason to be fighting amongst ourselves. WE'RE ALL ON THE SAME SIDE. Might I suggest calling the White House or your congressperson and showing them how angry you are? It would be much more worthwhile than screaming about it here.

Take a deep breath, count to ten.

Feel better?

Great. I'm with you on the anger part. Let's direct it towards the people who deserve it.

96. Rec'd this from an infor site near Deal's Gap yesterday
"Gas is slim in the area right now, but our fuel distributor has said that he
is getting a limited supply today. The pipeline is operating at 30% right
now and is expected to get better every day."

key words to me are slim, 30%, and "(expected) to get better"

52. Gas went up $.40 overnight here.........
was $2.79 9/10 yesterday up to $$3.19 9/10 this morning. This is in western New York. Cars are lining up around the block to fill up, I guess people think they're not going to be able to get gas anymore after today.

I was going to go up to the cottage this weekend, but it's 175 miles away and I'm not going to waste the gas. Besides that, my daughter is a Tulane student and she's having a rough time right now, she lost everything and two of her housemates haven't been heard from since Monday. On top of that, her best friend's mother, here in New York, committed suicide last night.

It's going to be a very bleak Labor Day around here. Hell, it's going to be very bleak fro quite some time. This nation needs a leader right now, and WE'RE STUCK WITH BUSH! If there's a god in heaven, help us, help us all.

I talked to a station manager the other day and he said nobody was having trouble getting gas, just that the prices are creeping up. We're at about 2.99-3.09 per gallon for regular. He also said he's seeing a noticable decline in demand.

Weird since it went up .20 the day before then zoomed .50.
Meanwhile I hear on radio or TV that the price per barrell has dropped and the gas prices are easing. Grrrr. I cannot stand that there are people getting rich off this.
