nice in the hopes that they will get resources more quickly. But I now think they have to change their approach and be as brutally honest as the mayor was about how FEMA has been MIA and is run by an incompetent idiot. preparations before the god damn hurricane even hit - they knew it was coming, they knew it was hitting the Gulf Coast at or damn near New Orleans, and they knew it would be a big one - why in the hell did the wait so long to get the Guards asses in gear? FEMA? The Red Cross? This is inexcusable - all the Bush Administration deserves is a length of rope and a lamppost.

37. Not sure, but the media has reported that Louisiana and Mississippi

have more than 6,000 of their National Guardsmen in Iraq at the current time. Also, almost all of their states' NG's equipment is in Iraq as well.

They are in the process of moving NG in from other states, but is another delay to move people and equipment, and people who are not as familiar with the area are not as efficient.

I see some people blaming the governor of LA. While she probably could've done better in some ways, I think the feds are fucking this one up much more royally. This is evidenced by looking next door in Mississippi: they aren't seeing any significant presence of soldiers or relief agencies either yet, which tells us that this is not a Louisiana-specific problem.

Im not much of a Blanco or Landrieu fan but as soon as someone starts blaming it on them I have been quick to point out that this is the way its being handled in Mississippi.

I also point out that Atlantic coast hurricanes seem to get lots of attention even before landfall from FEMA in the past.
