How much do you want to bet that Blanco will take the fall? |
|
The Wall Street Journal article this morning stressed the blame on local officials. This is a sign that the spin from the WH will be, "We didn't know how serious it was because the Governor didn't make that clear." Or "THe governor didn't ask for troops."
Because she is gentle and not bombastic, she is the easiest target for a White House in spin mode. Being female doesn't help either. I wonder how many people perceive her as weak just because of her gender.
For the record, Blanco asked for NG Troops on TUESDAY! The day after the hurricane hit. There should have been no denying of this request.
From reporters and eyewitnesses--including the mayor--there have been very few troops and VERY little--if any--federal help.
When you hear them trying to spin this as the fault of the gentle mannered governor, remember these facts. I have a feeling she will be the scapegoat. AFter all, it can't be Junior's fault....

3. I guess the Govs of MS and AL didn't tell them, either. |
|
Since FEMA's response has been just as abysmal in those two states - and there aren't even any snipers!

5. Forgive me for not knowing, but... |

...does she have a (D) after her name? If so the probability of scapegoating goes up past 99.9%.
If I were her, I'd be documenting everything!

7. A big chunk of her resources were in Iraq |
|
Thousands (3000?) of NG troops and their equipment were not available - they are in Iraq. They should have been mobilizing units from other states no later than Sunday morning. The Colorado National Guard and the Federal military were not at her disposal.

13. They'll surely try.......... |
|
cowardly dickwads that they are, but I don't see how they can deflect "personal responsibility" on this one.
This was a HUGE catastrophe. It was solidly on federal government to take the initiative and watch the friggin news reports if need be to see what's happening. Even if THEY didn't know the magnitude of this disaster, the American people sure did. From the start. No, they're gonna take the heat for this one. Thank goodness CNN is doing truthful reporting....surely others will follow suit and vent their pent-up frustration and anger since 9/11 and expose these criminals.
