Just found out one of my friends is a looter in New Orleans.
Apparently, he and some other doctors broke in to pharmacies after the storm and set up a make shift triage/hospital in their hotel.

I don't have any other details as I'm hearing this second hand. We haven't heard from him but his brother saw him on TV. I guess he's been busy. I guess I'll forgive him now for not calling to let us know he's OK after he and his boyfriend called Sunday to say they were taping up the windows of their hotel and that they were scared shitless.

13. WOW! Holding back looters at gunpoint while they raid the Walgreen's
He's going to have some stories to tell.

He is an HIV doctor AND one of the nicest people you will ever want to meet.

Needless to say, we are f--king PROUD of him.

3. Cool; a new and refreshing perspective on those nasty
looters. Your friend did what he had to do, and applause for him. He's trying to fix a problem, not become one. I'm glad he survived and hope he continues to do so.

4. Immediate supply drops
would have held back on the looting and the general mayhem, not to mention loss of life. Bastards.

5. There Was A Post On NOLA.Com A Couple Days Ago
Supposedly there are or were (I'm hoping) 300 people who were still holed up at the Ritz-Carlton. There had been a medical convention in town and several of the doctors were either stranded or stayed behind and had set up a triage in the Ritz.

The email I saw (and I think it was also posted here on DU) was from one of those doctors who broke into pharmacies on Tuesday to stock up on supplies. I saw another report yesterday that had said the doctors were still at the Ritz and were running low on supplies.

Anyone know more about this?

16. That's true, I guess. Because "looters are bad" ya know.

How nice it must be to live in the comfort, harmony and moral clarity of Perfectland.

:sarcasm: too.

9. Hope he's okay. Sounds like he's contributing a great deal.
It's a horrible shame that Junior and his thugs are trying to label him as a "looter" and putting blame on him for not getting out of NO when told to do so. As if saying it magically makes it happen.

I hope you get to see your friend very soon. Give him a big hug and thank you from those of us who greatly appreciate his efforts, particularly under such horrific conditions. He's a hero.

11. Don't you mean he's a "finder" ?
Let's keep our terminology straight here people. :sarcasm:

Good to hear some people are stepping up and doing the right thing, even if it's not 100% the legal thing.

18. THat's right...
Whites forage for supplies to survive.

Blacks loot other people's property in a time of crisis.

20. 100% the legal thing

The thing is, the defence of NECESSITY is available in all civilized legal systems.

If you break into a store to "loot" food because you have none and you have no other way of getting it, you are NOT guilty of a crime.

Ditto a doctor breaking into a pharmacy to get medicine.

Period!

15. Nominated.
I wish someone in the press could see this and find a way to verify it to report on the news.

The impression is that it's all addicts breaking into the pharmacies.
