One small point to make
I'm not sure if this has already been discussed, but I want to bring up the simple fact that we barely missed this disaster LAST year, with the hurricanes. Remember? Last year, this almost happened. There were large huricannes, and the large ones veered the other direction. One, Ivan, veered quite a bit; it's rather hard to forget.

A natural disaster that no one could predict or do anything about? Hardly true when a near-miss happened just last year.

I fail to see how anyone did not predict this, this year. It was forecast to be a bad season long before it started, THIS year. And, like I said, it almost happened last year.

A year of grace. Wasted.

This flooding is NOT a natural disaster that no one could predict.
