I have some serious questions about the clean up

Look like toys don't they?

How do they do this? My wife, offhandedly, said "light it up. burn it" but we both agreed that you can't do that.

Where does it all go? I know after 9/11 they moved it all to a staging area/dump in Jersey but where does all this stuff go? There was a story about Hurricane Andrew and they mentioned the clean up but I have never understood where it all goes.

Anyone? Anything?

5. Levees?
I personally think that they ought to make NO "party town" and move the workforce outside of the bowl.

3. well it can be recycled but I don't know if it will
the wood can be reused, pulverized and then reformed into wood products like plywood, etc.

Aluminum siding, piping etc, all can be recycled by remelting etc.

The wood that may not be able to be recycled can possibly be shredded and turned into mulch which can be resold.

Brick, stone, masonry,...that can be re-used in some case or it can be used for landfill..possibly in fixing problems nearby. Filling in ditches..etc

4. Mmmmm I think sifting through it could be cost prohibitive
I'm sorry for being all business about this but with the TONNAGE that needs to be moved going through it to find this and that would probably be to expensive.

7. Yeah (about the recycling above) my wife mentioned that
it probably all has to be treated as if it is all contaminated.

8. Perhaps Rebuilding The Outer Islands
The Japanese used urban renewal rubble when they built that island in the middle of Tokyo bay. Perhaps this stuff could be used to undo the damage caused by the wetlands and outer barrier islands that were developed away.

Don't know if that's really possible or not. But that does need to be rebuilt.

9. I was hoping whatever is salvageable they would donate to
habitat for humanity so they can start building some homes for the poorer community that are up to code. Surly they can reuse some of this wood. Maybe not for structural supports but basic framing of interior walls and storage sheds or whatever.

Cleanup will take years. Most will probably be shipped out to neighboring states landfills.
