4. Actually - they've donated $17 Million - so far -
Edited on Fri Sep-02-05 09:58 AM by Tesibria
I'm not "defending" them/all their actions - but get the facts straight.
They donated $15 million yesterday - on top of the $1 MIL to the Red Cross and $1 MIL to the Salvation Army.

Wal-Mart says it is providing 15 million dollars. The world's largest retailer is also planning to set up "mini-Wal-Mart" stores in the area to provide free supplies like water, diapers and clothing to those in need. It announced the increased donation after C-E-O Lee Scott contacted former President Clinton and the White House.

7. Does it matter what they donate if they won't take the vouchers.
Big company greed.

9. No link...
First - I do not believe that the statement is true.
Second - they're giving stuff away -- in huge numbers.
Third - yes, they SHOULD (give $ and stuff away) - they're the biggest company in the world.

12. How much of that $17 mil is actually from Wal-Mart?
My daughter used to work for them and amoung their employees they have a reputation for soliciting donations from employees (and employee families) and then counting that amount in the total given by Wal-Mart itself. Makes them look more charitable than they can possibly be.

They do this with their PR campaigns that promote Wal-Mart's "contributions to the community." Most of the contributions I've ever seen listed are time and materials donated by their employees.

13. ALL of it is CASH donation directly from Wal-Mart
much more likely will be collected from the "good folks" (and the workers ARE good folks) who work for Wal-Mart - and more from customers.

6. Great!

That is a reminder that one MILLION dollars is not what it used to be. Now if they donated one HUNDRED BILLION dollars, I would be impressed.

14. I heard on CNN it was 17,000,000
Not that it's not a transparent attempt to buy good PR. That's like one weeks advertising budget afterall. A bargain.

2. Speaking of the Evil Empire...
When gas prices started spiking a few days ago, the Walmart gas station down the street lead the pack. When everyone else in town was hovering around $2.75 they were the only store selling it for $2.92. They continue to be the highest around and last week they were the lowest. Must make up that donation somehow.

11. Holy shit..........
This is the first that I've heard of this, we don't have these here........

"The oil company has agreements with Wal-Mart ranging from 10 to 15 years, with options for two five-year extensions, according to its annual report."

Interesting.....

Thanks......I'll be passing this BS around.

... and I really love my favorite straw hat.

But, I'm not too worried. My hat will not suffer any damage.
