Please consider this timing in re: "cya"
I just spoke to a newsman in El Paso that I know who made a very valuable observation along these lines:

the WH response has been dismal and although the press has whipped them for the last 24 hours, the outcry has moved relief efforts and shamed them into doing what should have been done five days ago. HOWEVER: now that things are getting moving, THIS is when Bush* flies in with his "not acceptable!" comments and looks as though he is indeed turning the situation around. Thus...it was the incompetent "agencies and bureaucrats" who only really moved into action once "our hero" arrived in the region.

This guy is savvy, disgusted and always has his ear to the ground---he was a WAPO reporter for years and is retired in EP where he does some free lance stuff. But, he really laid out the timeline for "recovery of reputation by co inciding with the appearance of real relief finally---the gunslingers are going into clean out the place and let relief in just as Bush* shows up with "resolve"

"Lead tonight? "Pres says "unacceptable" flies into ravaged area as real relief appears at last"---

Frankly, I found the scenario compelling and let's see if that is how it unfolds.

12. He is an ordinary man, like many others.
Despite PC mythology "ordinary men" do not have some kind of great insight, nor miraculous abilities. I taught highschool for 10 years; "ordinary" tends to lack creativity across the spectrum.

We need leaders with specific kinds highly developed skills and abilities, IMO - PREFERABLY of a Populist stripe.

7. Aw, Unka Dick, do I HAFTA?
Can't I just go see people who like me?

I doubt this is going to work out the way they hope it will. No one except a real purple-tonguer would fall for that crap. The moron was making jokes and pretending to play a guitar with rich donors while New Orleans was falling into a pit. The Repukes might even lose Mississippi next time, and Louisiana is ours, without doubt.

8. If anything will argue against this scenario working. . .
(and I agree, it does seem to be what BushCo is trying to set up), is all the hoo-ha the White House made in recent weeks about how the Pretzeldent "doesn't need to know" the specifics of incidents -- e.g., planes approaching the White House, etc. -- and that the "processes" are in place and the system will take care of itself because of all the advance planning that has been done in the wake of 9/11. So maybe this is where our effort should be placed, if BushCo takes this tact to CYA -- what about the "processes" and the advance planning, why did they fail, or are they just a symptom of a maladministration in disarray?

read that "profiteering" . . . . again.

Cementing the ties that bind in their class.

9. Everything he does is perfectly choreographed.......
for maximum effectiveness to bolster his political image. I think even the MSM sees through this one and is actually not going to protect bush from this one. He's on his own, and when he's on his own, he's a straw-man.

Mind you not one belonging to the refugees...they will find a handful of black actors, pay them to be there and they will all applaud the boy king. When he mentions Jesse Jackson's name, they will all boo

11. You know what, it was "unacceptable" on Monday.
The fact that this ineffectual little twerp couldn't pry himself away from fine non-alcoholic (wink wink) champagne, golf, and his gee-tar for days on end, then shows up TODAY to give a minute long mumbling speech full of bullshit containing ONE nugget of truth that I could have told him in my sleep DAYS ago, is in my opinion, not worthy of the lead in a news story. HE is unnaceptable, there's your lead.

I hope that the press, who has actually been on the streets there for days, calls him on it.

I do believe you're right. Make believe "it's too dangerous" for relief supplies to get in, tell the Nat'l Guard not to let supplies get in...

until the idiot son can lead the charge..
(well THAT connects a couple of dots)

Reagan innauguration timed with the vast sense of relief coming with the hostage release, mKing Carter/Dems look like they hadn't done a thing and were weak and ineffective.

21. It does not matter what he does now, he could move a mountain
But he is still three days late and millions of dollars short, and all of the strutting, jutting of jaws, posturing, and making tough sounding statements cannot undo that fact.

And all of those bodies floating in the streets will only serve to remind people precisely what he FAILED to do. All of those people dying in NOLA for lack of potable water and medical care are a further reminder.

And the fact that Cheney does not seem to have his back on this is extremely telling--where the fuck is that robot??? He could be snarling out directives, going on TV, blanketing the news, and running defense for monkeyboy, but he is nowhere to be seen. I have not even seen a photo of him in WEEKS...how many days went by during Clinton's administration that we did not see Al Gore doing something, either in a photo or on a newscast.

Something is up with Dick, I think, and I wonder if that is why this clusterfuck is a bigger clusterfuck than it might have been.

that Rove had finally devised a way for Bush to lay the blame anywhere else but on his administration's doorstep. Watch the Repubbies talking points today. Wanna bet it'll be Democrats getting blamed for all of it?

26. His FEMA trained monkey
And many others have paved his road in brown. Only the equally disgusting media can whimper, growl and fall into line behind a trail like that.

Perfectly choreographed dance on the corpses of his victims. Admirable only to the dark hearts of his deepest supporters who are afraid of the reaction of the vast majority of real humans- should they ever get off their butt to save their lives and put down this illegal pResidency through resurrecting democracy and citizenship.
