Write your Congressmen...DEMAND ACCOUNTABILITY!!
Here's the address:
http://www.house.gov/writerep/

Here's the letter that I wrote to mine (copy or hack away):

Dear Sir,

I am writing you to express my great sadness and anger regarding our Federal Government's handling of the Hurricane Katrina crisis. It is becoming painfully obvious that our government has abandoned tens of thousands of our most vulnerable citizens and is letting one of our great cities fall to chaos and ruin. I am writing to ask you how, nearly four years after 9/11, we found ourselves without a plan to evacuate the sick, poor and elderly from what has been regarded as our most vulnerable city? As a formerly proud American citizen, I am outraged to see images coming from our own soil that are indistinguishable from those of a third world country. The Federal Government's response to Hurricane Katrina has been irreprehensible and I am asking for your pledge that you will demand the accountability of those responsible. Please be my voice.

Sincerely,

Dear Congressman Schwarz,
I know you are Republican and are to a degree beholden to your party. I feel however that the time has come to put your country before party. If it wasn't already obvious, it is now. President Bush is a proven incompetent. It is time for you to join with other sensible Republicans to rescue our country from this failure of a President and his policies. His terrible response to the hurricane is deplorable. For the sake of our country, please make a stand to bring this dark time in our history to an end. I believe President Bush has proven he is not worthy of the office he holds and should be impeached.

Dear Senator Stabenow/Levin,
If it wasn't already obvious, it is now. Bush is a proven incompetent. What are you and other Democrats going to do to rescue this country from this failure of a President and his policies. His terrible response to the hurricane is deplorable. When are you and other Democrats going to stand up to this cabal and become an opposing party? For the sake of our country, this clown needs to be removed from office.

edit: I sent this second letter to Senator Levin too.

14. Excellent letter, doesn't begin to describe the rage I feel.
Mine below

Dear Congress,

It is high time to begin discussing impeachment and calling on the Bush Administration for their full resignation beginning with President Bush.

As the evidence piles up and the documents below show, we were lied into an illegal war by the President, and Congress was coerced into funding the project so that we could obtain oil and gain back the fossil fuels which we so depend on.

http://media.putfile.com/DeadWrong10

I call upon all congress members to act, and not put this off by beginning with signing the resolution of inquiry. http://www.afterdowningstreet.org/?q=node/902
In our doctrine called the constitution it outlines that a
1)President and their staff may be impeached if the violations meet the criteria of high crimes and misdemeanors

This would meet the entire requirement, for lying the whole country into a war that was completely for self gain. But not only lying the country and paying congress to go along with that war, but also misplacing all of our national guard forces into Iraq and gutting funding for FEMA which could have prevented the holocaust disasters on the Southern Border from Mississippi to Alabama.
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/chi-050831corps-story,1,2364215.story?coll=chi-news-hed&ctrack=1&cset=true

This funding for FEMA and the disaster relief was cut and gutted, by the Bush Administration after Congress attempted to re-enforce the measures. Why did this happen? So we could waste time in a completely illegal war!!!!!!!

And the cost of it all? One hundred thousand and counting citizens dead! And more on the way, which meets the requirement of deriliction of DUTY. Congress must act and immediately seek remedy to the situation by calling for resignations and introducing formal inquiries to impeachment.

No other acceptable turn of action can be prescribed. We went into war over false flag terror and come out with nothing but rising gas prices, and only half of the oil which the war was really about! This will not stand, and we are NEVER going to LET it stand!

Sincerely,

Bob a frustrated citizen.

5. Where did the money go?
I will write today but, the question I want answered is where did all the money in the Homeland Security Budget go? They have repeatedly said they could not divulge the details of that budget because of "security" concerns. Didn't want the "terrorists" to know where we were concentrating our money. NOW IS THE TIME TO DEMAND THAT OUR CONgRESS BE GIVEN THE DETAILS OF THAT BUDGET!!

Our money was not spent on Disaster planning but, on tracking and surveillance of U.S. citizens. We were told that the major problem on 9/11 was the lack of communications. They were supposed to create a satellite network so that would never happen again. Well, guess what, the worst problem they are facing is that they cannot communicate.

FEMA, which used to work pretty well, should not be part of this horrible, horrible agency.

I WANT TO KNOW HOW THAT MONEY WAS SPENT AND HOW BADLY WE WERE RIPPED OFF. Bush is responsible for this. Our Congress, that went along with it is responsible for this. THIS IS THE BIGGEST RIP-OFF OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE IN HISTORY! Let them know WE WANT ANSWERS!!!!

8. Oregon, I agree, we need to demand a complete investigation!
Even a 5th grader could tell you that the first thing you do is to make plans for coordinated evacuation of cities...

Face it people, they have taken our money and left us to fend for ourselves!

Write them and tell them about it!

7. Here is mine
I know that the gulf coast is so very far away from us, but it breaks my heart to see the people of New Orleans trapped in the city. The federal government's response to rescuing the folks who were abandoned to the storm has been worse than deplorable!

Please, will you and your colleagues call Mr. Bush out on the carpet for this? 9/11 resulted in the creation of the Department of Homeland Security, but this disaster has shown that negligence and incompetence are the cornerstones of that institution. And as for FEMA, he installed a person with zero disaster credentials in that position...as a payback for what, I wonder?

We knew Katrina was coming and THIS was the best they could do!? People who managed to ride out the storm are dying in droves from toxic waste exposure, disease, hunger, and dehydration. What if this had been a surprise terror attack? How much worse would it be?

Please, demand accountability for this mess. Do not give Mr. Bush a pass on this.

9. Thank you so much! Here is my note.
Dear Congressman Engel:
I have just sent a contribution to the Red Cross and now have to start working and doing the job that I am being paid to do. However, I am taking this time to quickly register my horror and disgust with a leadership, that I finance with my taxes, and that is at best AWOL, at worst murdering my fellow citizens!

I grew up reading about the European holocaust and wondering how a government could take office and a people could look the other way while their fellow citizens suffered and died. I swore, at the tender age of 7 or 8, that I would never grow up to play the role of silently ignoring such abuse of power and condoning such horror with my silence. Now I understand how it happens and now is the time that I feel I must act.

I'm sorry Congressman Engel, but it is not enough to simply send money and sit by waiting and hoping that someone in power will be brave enough to buck the powers that be. If the threats of this administration are too frightening to my elected representatives, then they need to be replaced very soon and I will begin working on it ASAP. The good people of your district, and indeed this whole nation, are waiting to hear righteous indignation and see real life-saving action. Many of us feel that a true patriot and human being can not possibly wait much longer given the devastation that is occurring.

Please take this letter very seriously, as I am writing from the heart.
Respectfully yours,

10. Mine. I happened to finally recieve a reply re Karl Rove, & sent this out-
In a message dated 9/1/2005 11:32:26 A.M. Eastern Daylight Time, ny19ima.pub@mail.house.gov writes:
Once again, let me assure you that the independent investigators overseeing
this case are entirely nonpartisan and I believe they should be given the
opportunity to do their work in arriving at a fair and judicious decision. I do
intend, however, to follow this issue with interest and care over the coming
months, and should action be required by Congress for any reason, I will be
sure to keep your concerns in mind.

Thank you Ms. Kelly for your response. I understand your point of view, but this man should at least be suspended until the investigation is over, or if not, have his security clearance taken away. Police departments do that all the time with police officers who are under suspicion of a crime.

On another note. Once again this administration is tearing the fabric of our nation in its total catastrophic handling of Katrina. I am not eloquent enough to put it exactly how I feel, but Jack Cafferty of CNN voiced it exactly as I would (it is below my signature). I respectfully request that you read this and take the same care and concern about my opinion regarding Karl Rove.

I respectfully ask you to also join the Democrats in the Congress to investigate the possibility of impeachment. Our country is drowning as New Orleans has by the inept management of President Bush and his administration. The same inept management that has brought the chaos that is the Iraq War, the same inept management that is destroying our school systems, our environment. Then there is the Criminal management that lied about WMDs in Iraq ...I know about the Downing Street Memos, Ms. Kelly. That is high crimes and treason.

I appeal to your decency to do the right thing for our country and her people.

Sincerely,
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Jack Cafferty, we keep saying it gets worse every single day. And it's clearly worse today than yesterday.

JACK CAFFERTY, CNN ANCHOR: Well, and the thing that's most glaring in all of this is that the conditions continue to deteriorate for the people who are victims in this are and the efforts to do something about it don't seem to be anywhere in sight.

I want to read you something, Wolf. This is a quote from an editorial: "A better leader would have flown straight to the disaster zone and announced the immediate mobilization of every available resource. The cool, confident, intuitive leadership Bush exhibited in his first term, particularly in the months following 9/11, has vanished." Now that's not from some liberal rag. That is an editorial from one of the most conservative newspapers in the country, New Hampshire's "Union Leader."

"The New York Times," not unexpectedly, kind of chimed in. They said the President showed up a day later than he was needed, and they excoriated him for appearing casual to the point of carelessness. Harsh words coming from FEMA's former Disaster Response Chief Eric Tolbert who says the government was not ready and shifted its attention from natural disasters to fighting the war on terror.

The questions that we ask on THE SITUATION ROOM every afternoon, Wolf, are posted on the website two or three hours before we go on the air. And people who read the website often begin to respond before the show actually starts. The questions this hour is how would you rate the response of the federal government to Hurricane Katrina? I got to tell you something. We got 5 or 600 letters, before the show even went on the air. No one, no one says the federal government is doing a good job in handling one of the most atrocious and embarrassing and far reaching and calamitous things that has come along in this country in my lifetime. I'm 62. I don't remember -- I remember the riots in Watts. I remember the earthquake in San Francisco. I remember a lot of things.

I have never ever seen anything as badly bungled and poorly handled as this situation in New Orleans. Where the hell is the water for these people? Why can't sandwiches be dropped to those people that are in that Superdome down there? I mean what is going -- this is Thursday. This is Thursday. This storm happened five days ago. It's a disgrace. And don't think the world isn't watching. This is the government the taxpayers are paying for, and it's fallen right flat on its face, as far as I can see, in the way it's handled this thing.

We're going to talk about something else before the show is over, too, and that's the big elephant in the room. The race and economic class of most of the victims, which the media hasn't discussed much at all, but we will a bit later

12. Sent to Rep. Doyle and Senator Specter
Dear ,

I am appalled at our inability to assist the poor victims of this disaster.

I am appalled that, unlike 9/11, we were able to see a 250 mile wide storm gaining strength, bearing down on an area of our country, and still could not act in advance to hasten support for the residents of thes areas.

I am appalled that despite billions of dollars spent in my name and the names of every other taxpayer, we have received nothing but lip service from inept "leaders" appointed under cronyism rather than their ability to provide results based on a prior track record of success.

I am appalled that we have allowed our fellow citizens to live in squalor and death because of our leadership's inability to think outside of the box.

I am appalled that despite nearly five years of talk, we are no more prepared for a major disaster than we were on 9/11. In fact, many would argue we are less prepared.

I am appalled that despite the fact we have known since the beginning of our country's existence that the Gulf states are in low-lying areas, we have had no flood recovery and assistance in place.

Let me give you some food for thought.

FEMA explained that after Hurricane Andrew, there was dry land, so they could distribute food and water. They went on to complain they cannot provide aid because of the flooding. Is there any reason why we, as intelligent, creative Americans, can't create our own dry land in the middle of the New Orleans streets?

Why don't we have a fleet of small barges outfitted with diesel generators, diesel fuel, water tanks, and refrigeration units available? It took me less than 3 hours on the internet to locate portable 30' barges, portable water and diesel tanks, generators, and other necessities. It seems to me that we could easily create hundreds of small floating islands in the heart of flooded areas where residents could get food and water and emergency prophylactic antibiotics, and use the barges for staging areas to be evacuated by swamp boats. This is much faster than using helicopters who can only rescue a few people at a time.

Better yet, doesn't the Navy have portable docks for just such circumstances? What does the navy do when they need to provide docking where no port exists? Do they complain they can't do it? I don't think so.

FEMA should have all of this available and store them in areas like Arkansas, which is less than a 1 hour flight from the majority of major flood zones in the continental U.S.

In conclusion, people in Washington need to be held accountable for this debacle. This inhumane treatement doesn't happen in my United States, yet those who we elected to represent us have allowed it to happen. People need to learn that it is far more noble to save lives in the name of liberty than it is to take lives in the name of liberty.

I sincerely hope you and your colleagues who represent us understand that things need to change, and they need to change now. Our national security depends on it.

Sincerely,
