I'm trying to get a gage on this beyond DU and other liberal sites.

We already know the score about him and probrably could have predicted how he'd dismally he'd react to a crisis such as the one unfolding in the Gulf. But how about other people's perception, non political people, msm, etc? Is he really going down further, or are we off the mark here? Please post your thoughts and any relevant info here if you come across it.

2. 1) No, 2) Yes
He will never be "toast", but he is turning into a lame duck very quickly.

4. I've been poo-pooing threads like this for years now
But I really, honestly think - this was the straw. EVERYONE IS OUTRAGED!

The only ones that aren't are the total sociopaths.

5. yeah..that's why I'm trying to get a gage on things.
I read yesterday's New York Times excellent editorial on the handling of the disaster..but I'm interested if normally conservative papers, such as the Chicago Tribune, Wall St. Journal, etc. and media outlets, or Republicans in general are beginning to show outrage.

15. Well, at least we're finding out who the sociopaths are...
so let's make a list so we can round them up when the appropriate time comes. We'll construct many a sanitarium for these nuts.

7. We are watching people die on live tv
Poor people, black and brown people, disabled people, old people..
hourly. America can't handle that well, thankfully.

9. It is all in the hands of the media.
The vast majority of people simply repeat what they are told.

They simply cannot think in terms of issues or concepts.

It is primitive: "Hate this. Love this. This good. This bad."

"And now a word from our sponsors."

10. If America really is a decent society, Bush is finally toast.
This is too much for anyone with a shred of decency, regardless of politics, to tolerate.

If not, same old same old. Being a cynic, I'd bet on the latter.

There will be a black mark branded on this country for a long, long time if hundreds more are allowed unneccessarily to die.

11. This stuff is why BushCo won't allow cameras in Iraq
Psyops, propaganda. They know that when Walter Cronkite and his ilk started showing dead soldiers in Viet Nam on national teevee, America turned against the war. But they couldn't control this. People are seeing a warzone in our own country, and they see the president posing and playing guitar and doing nothing. This is different, also, in that this time the media seems to be on the side of the people for change. No memo from the home office is going to get these anchors to mock fawning adoration of this man.

This is our big Walter Cronkite moment. Unfortunately for America, it now takes 27 bubblehead talking heads to equal 1/2 of a Walter Cronkite.

17. I think Bush is toast...but he controls so many things (polls, media,
photo ops and diebold) that even if ALL OF AMERICA hated him (and I believe about 80 to 85% do ---- he would get away with it.

I hear NO ONE anymore say anything good about this administration...yet this shit still continues....

I wish he would be toast.

28. From my mother- a state employee in TX
Spoke to my mother on the phone this afternoon. She works for the TX Dept of Human Resources. Says the office was completely swamped with storm victims acting on an Expedited Foodstamp policy the state mandated (yesterday).

She told me that everyone.... *everyone* there today- state workers, victims, medical and security personnel, etc. were ALL cursing Bush's name. Granted, this is a state office in a state where the Governor is basically raping the welfare system and most people who work there are already disgusted with Bush's incomptence... yet they are all mainstream, second- (and many times) first income workers for their families.

She herself, an unusually meek and mild, little old lady had snake's venom in her voice when she talked about Bush and Homeland Security response.

On an off note-- many Eligibility workers in the state of Texas will be working throughout the holiday weekend to accommodate the new victims and get food stamps to anyone who needs them. This is unprecedented in Gov. Goodhair's and the rest of his Beverly Hillbilly's.
Take into account also that MOST of these same workers have already been notified that their positions will be eliminated within six months and I think it nicely illustrates where their loyalty lies- with the people they serve.

And I truly thank all of the Texans that are assisting with this effort. The Lone Star State's generousity is much appreciated. Thanks also for the insight from the conversation with your mom.

everyone here *knows* that everything is fine now---Bush personally brought in supplies. I heard it all afternoon. Apparently:

"he kicked butt and got things moving"

Guess the PR operation worked beautifully, the base is pleased. Oh and NO "will rise again?" The Neo Confederate "heritage" people among us took that as a big old "shout out"

lovely

32. I live in a rural area and people here are pissed!
The media and kool-aidaholics can no longer fool people. Yesterday, I heard a guy use the word 'towelhead' within 30 seconds of ripping on * about more or less everything. Bet he wishes he had voted for Kerry now!

My co-workers and I have almost never talked politics and they both have obnoxious ribbons on their cars. Today, both of them were complaining about *.

Letting people die in NO, the war, and gas prices are turning fencesitters and luke-warm * people over to our side. I would not be surprised if he were forced to resign/impeached by the end of the year.

When folks who use the word 'towelhead' are dropping *, it is curtains.

34. Pass the buck. It won't be stopping at the White House.
Bush is trying to position himself so that he can blame the government without taking the blame.

Most people are smart enough to realize how shitty things are, but there are some unfortunately deficient folks that aren't putting two and two together.
