Does today seem like it's scripted climax of a classic disaster flick?
Edited on Fri Sep-02-05 01:07 PM by Armstead
Bush shows up just as the gates open and lets the National Guard into the beleagured city. Suddenly, a crisis is resolved, the clouds part and we emerge triumphant into a new day.

Just like Independence Day, when the President climbs into a fighter plane and helps to save the world. And like the climax of every other disaster thriller you can think of.

I just hope the media and public don't take the bait at this obvious manipulation of images.

4. The hell they did. He stole both elections. And I think for once
the media can't be used to whitewash all of this. Too many people who know someone who knows someone who suffered from the lack of useful and timely response.

**'s ass is in a sling now.

5. Sort of - but wait a week or two when the death toll starts coming out
it will be sad, sad news. No happy ending yet.

6. No. If it was a classic disaster flick, in the end, the people who
prevailed in the tragedy get some kind of justice.

For example,

(1) In Alien II, the business-minded guy got eaten by an Alien.
(2) In one of those deep sea movies, the crew that makes it up and out alive, gets to go up to the business woman who set them up and gets to slug her.

Well, you get the idea.

15. Very macabre situation
The coinciding of "relief" with Bush's visit is just too much like a tightly written movie script.

(I'm not one who believes they deliberatly waited just for this. But I do think they deliberatly manipulated it for maximum Hollywood-style effect.)

??????????????

This will not be over for YEARS!!!!!!

The delay in bringing assistance to these folks will have political impact far and wide. And include their relatives and friends too.

On this day Bush stands naked and exposed for the fraud he is.

13. Hardly! A horrific revelation of death and disease will follow.
The RW propaganda machine will not be "pretty enough" to overcome the aftermath of this human tragedy.

14. dog and pony show aside this is still a clusterf**k
and will continue to be - I'm glad the stuff is getting to the people that need it but I don't expect * and his clowns are ready to provide food and shelter for 100,000 - 400,000 people who are now homeless for months on end, to provide the money and personnel and equipment needed to pump out New Orleans; the commitment to rebuild the city and the grim task of burying or disposing of the victims - if we have as many as they say they might you will see bodies being burned in New Orleans or buried in mass graves made by a backhoe. The scope of the horror and the loss will overwhelm any spin attempt by this crew.
