24. Well, we've really set the bar low then, haven't we?
He is simply stating the obvious. But maybe that's the new "competence" in this country we used to call America.

2. Mayor Nagin said things started turning around when Honore got there
Edited on Fri Sep-02-05 01:07 PM by gauguin57
NOLA Mayor Ray Nagin said:

"Now, I will tell you this -- and I give the president some credit on this -- he sent one John Wayne dude down here that can get some stuff done, and his name is Gen. Honore.

"And he came off the doggone chopper, and he started cussing and people started moving. And he's getting some stuff done.

"They ought to give that guy -- if they don't want to give it to me, give him full authority to get the job done, and we can save some people. "

She was authorized to do it Saturday, but waited until Wednesday.

6. The Mayor of NO had kind words to say about him as well
He said that FEMA should have given the General the power to organize everything, that he would have gotten things done.

19. From Ray Nagin, that's where.
He said nothing was happening UNTIL this guy got to town. This should be the guy in charge, Nagin said. He got what little is moving, moving.

17. I think I heard him say he's FROM New Orleans.
He's got extra reason to do the job.

CNN anchor (Kyra Phillips) just said "We're counting on you." He said "it's not about me," and he's giving all credit to the troops.

I'm glad this guy is the head of the task force.

I love how he says "Over," when he stops talking, as if he's on a walkie-talkie.

23. I'm glad for the people of New Orleans that he sounds competent.
And I consider his presence and maybe even his commandership of rescue efforts crucial. However, I am a little concerned about the potential development of a point of view that the military is the source of good things only.

And although I can see the point in not handing things over to Hagin or Blanco based on what would appear to be a lack of adequate preparations before the hurricane, I remain suspicious of the possibility that the real reason that Nagin and Blanco have been cut out of the process has more to do with the fact that they are democrats, not republicans.

26. Stating the obvious, finally doing what obviously needs to be done?
That's "competence" now?

How sad.
