Let Katrina be a lesson to everybody living in a blue Urban area |
|
The federal government won't help you until they can stage a photo op, so what you need, just to survive, is as follows:
1) 10 (yep, TEN) days supply of water. You never know what friend or acquaintance might show up on your doorstep begging for help. Better be ssure you have ten days of water.
2) 10 days supply of freeze dried food (remember, this adds to the amount of water you need for survival). Camp food is good. so are MREs.
3) Guns
4) Ammunition
The guns and ammo are perhaps the most important part of all. There will be no authority, so you must do whatever you have to in order to protect yourself, your family, and your supplies.

I'm living in a red state. I don't think it matter to him what state a crisis happens in now. His election is over.

I live in San Francisco and now I know that if there is an earth quake, it will be Mad Max land for days.
I'll also be getting my Dad to ship my old hunting rifles & shot guns from Georgia.

if you prepare well. You just need to protect yourself. After our relatively minimal hurricanes in this part of the state last year, I learned that you need at least 10 days worth of supplies. No matter what you hear on TV or the news - those Red Cross and FEMA people do not go into neighborhoods. They set up regional supply centers and wait for you to come to them. They did drive by about 3 blocks away once or twice with loudspeakers, but no way you could get to them in time before they drove on - a rather useless way to try to get supplies to people.
We are lucky here. We are surrounded by drainage canals, we don't flood (no matter how hard it rains), we were able to get dirty water and rain water to flush our toilets (when totally necessary). We had bleach to purify the water and we could bathe in it. If we had run out of drinking water, I have water purification tablets. The thing in the Gulf is that none of these things would have helped most of those people - their stuff was washed away. We lived in 95 degree heat and high humidity for two weeks without a/c and electricity. We got our telephone service back in about a week. No one, except your neighbors, ask how you are and whether you need something.
That's how things are.

4. Canned foods, shelf stable foods too |
|
Plus recipes that you can make by just combining foods - if you want links PM me - I'm not going to post my site here with all the freepers trolling.
And don't forget manual can openers, and disposable forks, knives, plates, spoons, bowls.
AND ONE GALLON OF WATER PER PERSON PER DAY, MINIMUM.

Find a nice lonely backwater with some acreage, tap a nice deep well, hook up solar panels to to get off the grid, put in a nice deep basement (40 ft down at least). Then stock up at least ten thousands rounds of ammo and a years worth of food, gasoline and other necessities. Get that back up generator and motor-home in case you need to evacuate the area. Set up tank traps and moots in case of an invasion by an unfriendly army. Yet most of all get a Satellite phone and satellite internet service so we all can keep in contact to see how you are doing

7. Considering the Coke-Addict Fuckwad In Chief left NYC in the dust, |
|
promising 20 billion, then giving nothing, until Hillary was able to at least get a commitment of 10 billion (which the feds probably still haven't given), and now seeing what's happened in NO, I agree with you.
If you live in a blue area, and disaster strikes, you are fucked and you are on your own.
Pretty sad when it gets to the point of having to ask when you are voting "Do I vote for the good guy, or do I vote for the republican to helkp increase our chances of actually getting aid if disaster strikes".

Took 5 days after Andrew for Govt to come in. but what is you can afford it and your house floods and disappears? Hever owned a gung when sorry to say that we decided to get one after going thru Andrew, we had no choice. Looter came into neighborhoods looting peoples home etc. Authorities were clueless and overhwelmed. Gee I would have thought they had learned their lesson then.

They tell you to have 3 days worth of food & water as well.
How are people who are living hand-to-mouth going to do that?
