In my corner of the world in Texas today |
|
There were 5 huge 18 wheelers parked in the WalMart parking lot with Red Cross personnel loading donations. 3 were leaving for points South and another was almost totally full with pallets on the ground being loaded. They will continue to take donations all weekend. We have a Kimberly Clark division here and there were TONS of donated diapers getting ready to be sent. We drove by the Department of Health and Human Services--there were probably about 30 cars in the lot, with 15-20 of them having Lousiana plates. This weekend, the firemen in our town are "filling boots". This is generally a successful effort in our community raising thousands of dollars on previous efforts. There are also quite a few evacuees staying in this area. They will be opening Camp Maxey this weekend for families and are taking other donations for that.

Excellent....this is good news, and welcome for those who will still be alive a couple of days from now.
I just hope that enough gets to the flood voctims today, because otherwise, a lot of people are going to die in the heat, especialy in places where the media isn't present.
