ACTIVISM REQUEST: Need email addies and Phone #s for Congress folk, esp
Edited on Fri Sep-02-05 02:46 PM by GreenPartyVoter
any who sit on committees that deal with disaster preparedness, national guard, and homeland security.

Admins, can we get something together for the DU activist corps so that we blast these people for the utter lack of help provided by **'s pretend FEMA and Fatherland agencies??

Editing to add: Folks we need some letter outlines and talking points too. What have you got so far?

We cannot do it alone and 35 coountries have offered help

Time we accept that help

Things need to be done

16. Some talking points
1) The gutting of the funding for the levees

2) The studies that a cat 4 or 5 storm would indeed overwhelm NOLA

3) The incompetent inexperienced boob running the gutted FEMA agency

4) The almost useless department of homeland security in the wake of an ANTICIPATED disaster.

ERGO: tell these congress critters NOT to let ** pass the buck

21. I've written to a few...
...My e-mail to Spector was a doozy, but I forgot to copy it.

Here's a copy of my standard e-mail though.

Dear Sir,

I am writing you to express my great sadness and anger regarding our Federal Government's handling of the Hurricane Katrina crisis. It is becoming painfully obvious that our government has abandoned tens of thousands of our most vulnerable citizens and is letting one of our great cities fall to chaos and ruin. I am writing to ask you how, nearly four years after 9/11, we found ourselves without a plan to evacuate the sick, poor and elderly from what has been regarded as our most vulnerable city? As a formerly proud American citizen, I am outraged to see images coming from our own soil that are indistinguishable from those of a third world country. The Federal Government's response to Hurricane Katrina has been irreprehensible and I am asking for your pledge that you will demand the accountability of those responsible. Please be my voice.

Sincerely,

30. More useful info...
Here is the link for the Senate Committee on Homeland Security:
http://hsgac.senate.gov/index.cfm?Fuseaction=About.Membership

Here is the link for the Subcommittee on Homeland Security for the Senate Appropriations Committee:
http://appropriations.senate.gov/subcommittees/homeland/topics.cfm?code=homeland

The House counterparts:
http://hsc.house.gov/
http://appropriations.house.gov/index.cfm?FuseAction=AboutTheCommittee.MemberList&SubcommitteeId=14

Well guys these are the people who are responsible for this...let 'em have it!!

The Judiciary Committees oversee the DHS (i.e. these are the people you need to convince to start an investigation)

Senate:
http://judiciary.senate.gov/subcommittees/technology109.cfm
(some heavy hitters on that one!)

House:
http://judiciary.house.gov/committeestructure.aspx?committee=6

Additionally, I suggest contacting John Conyers http://www.house.gov/conyers/
He's the ranking Dem Judiciary member, basically politically invincible and ALWAYS looking to stir things up! Oh and he's an old school civil rights activist.

Have fun kids!

I'm going to repost this in its own topic too until we get it flagged or whatever, hope that's okay ADMIN
