7. She does sound sick
I have listened to her for 15 years and she truly puts her heart and soul into helping people. This is killing her watching this happen in NO and not being able to help them. I thought she was going to break down at the end of this segment.

17. Mayor caught off guard, but the Governor has no excuse. Sorry.

The Mayor was a bit caught off guard by this whole mess, but after the disaster, the governor should have taken charge. That's how the system is supposed to work. And she has the power, too.

RS 29:7

§7. Calling militia for active service by governor; homeland security and emergency preparedness; public emergency

A. The governor may order into the active service of the state any part of the militia that is necessary to provide for homeland security or emergency preparedness or in the event of insurrection, invasion, or riot, or imminent danger thereof, or in the event of public disaster or danger from flood, fire, storm, earthquake, civil disturbances, terrorist events, or in order to detect, prevent, prepare for, investigate, respond to, or recover from any of the foregoing, or to assist the civil authorities in guarding prisoners, or in response to a national or state emergency or a congressional authorization or presidential declaration pursuant to the War Powers Resolution (50 U.S.C. 1541 et seq.).

B. When called to state service by the governor as provided in Subsection A, members of the Louisiana National Guard and military police shall, unless otherwise restricted by the executive orders, proclamations, or regulations or the orders of their commander, have all of the powers and authority of peace officers, including but not limited to the powers to make arrests, to perform searches and seizures, to execute criminal warrants, and to exercise such other powers and duties of a peace officer as are reasonably necessary to preserve the lives, property, and security of persons in the subject civil jurisdiction, all in accordance with the laws and constitutions of Louisiana and the United States of America.

C. When the active national guard, or a part thereof, is called to duty under the constitution and laws of the United States of America, the governor shall order into service the remaining units of the active national guard, if any, or any part thereof that is necessary.

D. If the number of persons available from the active national guard is not sufficient, he shall order out whatever part of the unorganized militia necessary. During the absence of active national guard organizations in the service of the United States of America, their state designations shall not be given to new organizations.

10. Communications are being cut because
FEMA and HS depts are not going to let survivors leave the city under the guise of prevention of epidemics. Think about it.

Edited on Fri Sep-02-05 03:28 PM by Just Me
,...the major and governor and police and doctors SCREAMING FOR HELP!!! The administration REFUSED TO RESPOND!!!

Whatever other "communications" you are talking about (e.g. literally cutting people who are starving and dying from leaving the city) is another matter. Decisions to BLOCK food and water and supplies is yet another egregious activity!!!

22. LSK: The local TV channels and radio stations in Baton Rouge
have every press conference, both national and local, of every LA official. Not only the press conferences, but the interviews on TV and radio are saved in BR. Unless "something" happens to them.

I find it abhorrent that many DUers are condemning our blue governor and senator. They might as well be freepers on the attack. We should really try to stick together as a party....but, I guess that's asking too much of some Duers.

32. I saw them Ann
I saw your Governor crying and begging for federal assistance.
Problem was, as I pointed out, this was a well-staged choreography from the beginning.
While Blanco and Nagin were on the local channels trying to connect to the people affected--the feds were on MSNBC, CNN, et al telling everyone that "Everything is okay".
The truth is out there.

19. The mayor's city was destroyed, so it couldn't be helped, but...
the next person in line is the governor. The mayor's city was destroyed, so there wasn't much he could do afterwords, but the state of Louisiana was still functioning. It was up to the governor to step up and she failed.

Both of them are good people. The mayor especially will bounce back. He's a great man. But the governor screwed up big time.

Some of the Governor's powers:

RS 29:7

30. Part of this is MSM fault
While the local channels were playing interviews of the Governor and the Mayor begging for help--I saw them myself...the MSM was playing interviews of Chertoff and Brown saying "everything is okay".
This is a local disconnect, however, but I believe MANY Louisiana residents who watched the local feeds know the deal.
