RW Radio: "Local gov't." is to blame
Bring da noise...

Shift from "let's not politicize" toit's all local gov't's. fault.

I guess they got their talking points because Russert is saying the same thing as all the RW media hosts like :puke: Roger Hedgecock for Rush Limbaugh. They are using this to blast Nagin of course.

Other talk points: feds are ALWAYS slow. People shouldn't complainabout MREs it reeks of entitlement mentality of welfare recipients. Nagin did nothing tosecure NOLA (with lmtd. Resources in a flooded city).

Got that freepers? Mmmmkay. Start parroting this idiocy like good little sheeple. Bahhh

It's a red state with a blue govenor, a blue (barely) Senator and a blue mayor in NO. *co is deliberately witholding aid to make the LA blues look BAD. They will send the people to Texas and tell them that their blue Guv FAILED them! They are STEALING Louisiana WITHOUT DIEBOLD!

WHo was that on Maddow bad mouthing the NO mayor? It was her performance that revealed the plan.

3. Local and state gov't resources are the police , fire and nat'l guard
Cities and counties are ALL suffering cutbacks under Bush's leadership and Bush funneled funds that went for LOCAL help into Homeland Security.

These people are liars. When the revolution comes, I will alter my opinion of the death penalty to allow death to right wing disinfo liars by typhus and cholera from the swamps that are now New Orleans.

4. Yep, this showed up on DU and with callers to AAR right on schedule
It is their pathetic attempt to try and shift the blame from bush but it won't work. There is video and audio proving the local officials were requesting, then pleading for help from the beginning.

6. Big Government is bad
A tried and true right wing talking point! Little government is good. This is because little government has a cheaper price tag when it comes to buying a politician. How much does it cost to get a city councilman in your pocket, vs. a state senator or a senator?

The right has always pushed for more local decision-making power, since much of their base express a desire to make society conform to their values, and can more easily affect local issues towards their cult views. Most often this value is greed, wrapped in free-market sanctimony.

Planning, Response Are Faulted

By Josh White and Peter Whoriskey
Washington Post Staff Writers
Friday, September 2, 2005; Page A01

Tens of thousands of people remain stranded on the streets of New Orleans in desperate conditions because officials failed to plan for a serious levee breach and the federal response to Hurricane Katrina was slow, according to disaster experts and Louisiana government officials.

Though experts had long predicted that the city -- which sits below sea level and is surrounded by water -- would face unprecedented devastation after an immense hurricane, they said problems were worsened by a late evacuation order and insufficient emergency shelter for as many as 100,000 people.

<snip>

Rep. Charles W. Boustany Jr., (R-La.), said he spent the past 48 hours urging the Bush administration to send help. "I started making calls and trying to impress upon the White House and others that something needed to be done," he said. "The State resources were being overwhelmed, and we needed direct federal assistance, command and control, and security -- all three of which are lacking."

<snip>

"How many people are going to die, per hour, before you get 40,000 troops in there?" Madden asked yesterday. "I think it has cost lives. . . . They can go into Iraq and do this and do that, but they can't drop some food on Canal Street in New Orleans, Louisiana, right now? It's just mind-boggling."

13. Aha! I thought so
I've been hearing that too. It goes like this. Mayor Nagin of NO couldn't handle the crisis himself and didn't ask the feds to get involved until it was too late.

By that time "anarchy" reigned in the streets and no one could get near.

You see? So, it's all someone else's fault.

Again.

how many times can this freak in chief and his handlers blame someone else before the faithful will give it a rest.

I'm so sick of this I could puke.

15. This started yesterday
They have been trying different excuses on for size til they found one that might stick.
And this one just might.
They are comparing Nagin to Guiliani.
Only difference is, Guiliani (other than actually have forehand knowledge), had the FULL support of the federal government.
If anyone would care to remember--a majority of HIS first responders were killed AND they had an entire NG at their service.
New Orleans does not.
However, comparing New Orleans to New York is apples and oranges.
The attacks were over when they were over.
It literally wasn't 3 days of attacks. In New Orleans, the first day it was the wind and waves, second day flooding, third day disease, hunger, thirst. And so it goes. On and on.
The effort in NY was mobilized immediately, whereas for some reason it has been dragging in NO.

18. Yep, this is definitely the new meme...
Listened to the asshole sitting in for O'liely a little today and he was saying exactly these things. Something to the effect of:

The city of NO government is a mess, their police force is corrupt, highest crime rate, LA govt a mess and their just trying to cover up their mistakes...why wasn't LA and NO prepared for something like this at the city and state levels?...

There is something he said that I would like to debunk (if anyone can help)...he said that Naglin as late as Monday night was refusing help and saying everything looked under control. I can't really remember ever hearing this...can anyone confirm?

19. I heard the same shit.
I forced myself to listen....just to make sure I got their message right. Yup, it's the mayor's fault, it's the fault of local government, you have to expect the feds to be slow to react. That Hedgecock (Hedgehog might be better) guy actually made a point of saying he "expects" the feds to be slow. Expects it. Expects. It.
If this had happened with Clinton in office, would he be singing that same tune and just cavalierly shrugging it off?? And how the fuck is the mayor supposed to fix the levees....send out a city works crew to do it??? Having said all this, I do think there are questions we all may need to ask about the response of local officials here. Could there (was there?) any effort they made to help ferry the poor people without transportation, out of their threatened neighbourhoods before the storm hit? There are definite questions, and answers we need to continue to demand, of Bush and the federal emergency management leaders, regarding evacuating the poor. Make no mistake about it: this was and continues to be a colossally mismanaged federal rescue effort, and as far as I'm concerned may ultimately warrant a criminal investigation.

22. IMMEDIATELY after Hurricanes Bertha & Fran hit Wilmington, NC
There were NG and local cops patrolling, the Red Cross and the Sallies (plus local orgs and grocery stores), and FEMA was there later the SAME DAY. Of course, this is when Clinton's Admin ran the show. Fucking LIARS. I have never been so angry in my 40 years of living on this planet. I hate them. I mean, I REALLY hate them. Letting people die on the streets like a rabid dog....

Both of these 'canes were bad, and Bertha had MUCH flooding....

24. Drudge has been pushing this for at least a day or two
Among other things, he's got a photo of submerged school buses in a parking lot with a caption demanding to know why Nagin didn't use the buses to evacuate people before the storm.
