Yes! Jesse Jackson uses the "R" word! (vote up the story)
Edited on Fri Sep-02-05 03:16 PM by mvd
I was wondering where the civil rights leaders were. This is big IMO.

BATON ROUGE, La. - Racism is partly to blame for the deadly aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the Rev. Jesse Jackson said, calling President Bush's response to the disaster "incompetent."

"Today, as the President comes to Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi for his ceremonial trip to look at the victims of the devastation, he would do well to have a plan more significant than a ceremonial tour," Jackson said Friday.

"His whole response is unacceptable."

13. Would you rather he was silent during this?
We need all the speaking out we can get. Amazing that black leaders get singled out for the negative instead of the positive things they do. :-(

16. You are correct. Bush appointed Condi and Powell to very high positions
in Government, he's a classist. I was calling it Racism yesterday, but I really feel it's more classism as you say.

18. The poor whites in Mississippi are being taken care of...
Its clear cut racism but seems like when it happens to blacks no one wants to call it what it is.

15. Tweety's racist comment yesterday?
This is a segment of the transcript from yesterday's Hardball. Matthews had just shown videos contrasting the so-called orderliness of the people in Biloxi, Mississippi and the chaos and anger in New Orleans. Tweety seemed to suggest that the people in New Orleans are inherently angry and he was quickly corrected by David Shuster who suggested that the anger was because NO was still flooded and without assistance, whereas Mississippi was receiving aid:

MATTHEWS: You've got to wonder about the difference in the cities themselves, whether it is just a lot of pent-up anger and poverty in New Orleans that people don't notice when they go in there as tourists. And we're all seeing it now right on national television. We don't usually put people who are poor and angry on national television. We're showing it now.

SHUSTER: Well, Chris, I think what is so crucial about Biloxi and the Gulfport area is that they've been able to clear the roads. I mean, remember, the water receded a couple of days ago.

So, since then, the challenge has been, well, let's just get the debris off the road, so we can get to these people.

MATTHEWS: Right.

20. Yeah, and they pulled Bataan away from NOLA
...where they were using the helos to drop food, water and rescue people, sending out small craft to also provide assistance, and which has a 600 bed hospital, to go to Biloxi, where they could get that stuff in over roads. Mind-boggling!!!!!!!!
