So the feds left the locals out to dry. |

It's becoming really clear now that this wass the situation.
Bush certainly didn't give two shits. He partied around for the first two days of the situation - that's unforgivable in itself.
Both mayor and governor asked for help, recieved nothing. It's hard to tell who was directly screwing them in this case, but homeland security and FEMA were both lying consistantly. It appears they may have been everything, but not bringing it into the city.
From what it seems, the mayor was in the city with the police officers trying to rescue people at first, then maintain some kind of control over things. It became increasingly desperate, and they even begin to call out for help from other law enforcement agencies around the country. We have now seen (it was posted here as well as reported even on CNN a moment ago) that at least one sheriff's office was turned away by the feds. The mayor made more than one desperate plea for help, including the now famed interview.
But then somewhere along the line, even the mayor and governor were out of touch with each other. Did the mayor think the even governor was working with the feds and he was all alone? He clearly didn't know what was going on. The governor on the other hand seemed incredibly strained and it seemed like she thought she was doing the right thing asking for troop support, but the reaction was incredibly slow. Is FEMA to blame here?
This all leads into today, when the big surprise comes. Bush comes down, gets his publicity, and all the sudden help is POURING in. Not just food and drink, but buses, helicopters - a bulldozer even materializes out of thin air to start repairing the levee. All the stuff that couldn't happen before. Is someone going to tell me they weren't holding all of this stuff back? Can someone explain to me how this isn't the sickest, most contrived thing they've ever seen? This whole situation is insanity.

3. Very true, though I'm not sure how much direct aid they actually got. |

I was just commenting on the NO situation. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if the suck-ups got what they wanted and the caring people got shit. That's how life works in a lot of ways, and it's pathetic.

4. Did you doubt that this was coming? |

Someone has to take the fall for this...and it sure won't be the feds. Our state is so poor, with so few resources, and was just overwhelmed. When they begged for help they were promised help was on the way....it wasn't. It hurts so much when I see someone on TV blaming our Gov and the Mayor of New Orleans...their styles are much different, but each in his/her own way begged for help from the fed. I'm gonna make a bumper sticker: "help is on the way....not."
Everyone in every state, in every city in America should be very afraid, very afraid. This could be you now, this could be you next.
