DU Volunteer Check In. What are YOU doing???? |
|
I'm manning phones for The Salvation Army this weekend.
The idea of this thread is not to "brag"- but to encourage others who may be dragging their feet.
Whatcha doing????

At some point, we're going to send them to the displaced in Texas.

2. Gave money. Gave blood. |
|
Also please check out www.designforacause.com . I have 2 "I LOVE NEW ORLEANS" designed t-shirts, all profits to the Red Cross. Working on more, and taking suggestions.
That's what I'm doing.

toys, sheets, and other random items that I have a lot of. I'm looking for a family to donate to at the moment. If anyone knows one, I would appreciate it. I'm a plus-size woman, and I have a small bit of normal women's clothing.

4. Trying to get through to my local Red Cross |
|
I just moved back to Austin. I won't be starting back to work until Sept. 12th. I'm a nurse. I think they could use me. If I can ever get through, that is!

5. Trying to get to from Denver to Houston to volunteer. |
|
Have leads on housing, a ride down, and mass emails out to everyone I know to finance this unemployed person's trip.
I also helped connect people in Amarillo who are trying to set up refugee housing and doing clothing drives.
I've also volunteered to be a Red Cross Call Center operator, but my training isn't until next week.

8. Collecting $$ for animal rescue charities heading to NO. |
|
Instead of using buckets like the Red Cross, we're using dog bowls and horse water buckets to collect money from people stopped at busy intersections. We're also doing a collections table at the PetSmart and another small pet store (they do not sell puppies or other live animals, so they're on the 'ok' list!). Next weekend we'll do the same except be outside the Target.
We're benefitting the Humane Society of the US, Noah's Wish, the Louisiana SPCA, and the Southern Mississippi SPCA.

9. I packed a large box of clothes |
|
out of my store and put it on the relief truck coming from Burlington, VT. I had a $5.99 sale today. That's it, $5.99. But i still put $400 worth of stock from my new store on a relief truck. What the fuck has * done? What the fuck is wrong with that morbid bastard? Maybe he's hoping to breed an army of new terrorists right here in America, So he can kill 'em and say look at me, I'm protecting you from these evil-doers. Man as if there wasn't enough racial tension, lets blatantly withhold aid and leave thousands to die in the streets. Motherfucker, I pray for justice "let * and his cronies end up eating out of garbage cans for the rest of their VERY LONG LIVES!"

16. Selling candy in school |
|
to raise money.
Middle school kids, in general (at least in my school), will do charity work only if there is a "reward" of some type in it for them. Although I have to say that several of the kids told me to "keep the change"!
If I lived closer, I'd go there this weekend to help in whatever way I could. My family & I are going to do some "Fall cleaning" this weekend and bag up all the extra toys, clothes, books, and anything else we can find to donate. Just need to decide where to donate it.
Great reason to clean house! I always need a little motivation.:-)
