20. On Hannity & Colmes .... |
|
Sean Hannity is being as gross as a human being can. Shep Smith and Geraldo are slamming him. Geraldo held up a little child who is the picture of suffering. Geraldo is weeping. Shepard Smith has raised his voice, and addressed Sean for being a jerk.
When this happens on Fox, it is a sign.

30. Geraldo is feeling the passion. |
|
He knows there are thousands of people being told they can't move off a bridge, etc, into a safe land. He knows they have had no supplies after 5 days. He knows they are too tired, hungry, confused, and afraid to move. He will pull a Moses if help isn't there in the early morning.

I saw an interview with him once that talked about his friendship with Lennon and how, though they hadn't been talking for a while (thanks to Yoko, apparently) he was a few blocks away when John was shot.
He also apparently helped Bobby Kennedy expose abuse and neglect at mental institutions somewhere back East before Bobby was shot. Kicked in a door and went inside with a camera crew before anyone could stop him.
Pretty big stuff.

He did some sharp investigative reporting for the NYC ABC affiliate back in the mid-'70s. When I came back to the US after 10 years abroad, I was shocked and disappointed that he'd gone over to the dark side. I have never stopped hoping that he'd come back to his roots.

He's obviously got an ego that's ocean sized, but at the same time he HAS done some damn fine journalism (Admittedly far from the bulk of his work--but it is there) and you usually get the sense that he does realize his subjects ARE human.
Shep Smith on the other hand was just gold tonight--he was ready to reach into the camera and pull Hannity's kidneys out. I think he's had an epiphany.

|
Rivera was with the police chief, who had been at the Coliseum for going on six days ... chief said he estimates there are 30,000 people stuck there ... he's seen people dying around him every day ... and if they did not get relief TONIGHT he feared they would riot.
The caller said Rivera looked scared to death and O'Reilly said, yeah, yeah I got it, trying to cut it off. O'Reilly was trying his usual spin but the reality on the screen was making that impossible.

49. Shepherd Smith really impressed me on O'Reilly last night. |
|
O'Reilly said, "The mayor should've had a plan," and Smith had a tight upper lip and said, "I wouldn't pass judgement on anyone in this situation."
Then I think O'Reilly was talking about the looters and Smith seemed really indignant and said, "Bill, you haven't seen this. There are dead bodies floating openly in the water around these people."
I used to think Shepherd Smtih seemed reptilian but my opinion of him did a 180 in that segment.

I mean, the city is under water, the bridges are down... If it is possible for them to walk out of the city, for God's sake, evacuate them. But if letting them go is just going to lead them to be drowned on flooded streets, they are better off where they are, even though conditions are terrible.
Does anyone know if there is a safe, walkable route out of the city?

Who the hell gave the order to keep them locked up? These Guardsmen didn't just decide to keep them there. They follow orders. This is one order they should ignore.
I can hear the excuse already though...if we open the doors there will be a stampede. Of course, if they think there will be a stampede now, what do they think will happen a day, two days, three days from now. Yes, I know the answer, but I can't bring myself to think that we've really sunk that low...
This is not going to end well.

our houses during these hurricanes. We have lived on Florida's west coast, about three blocks from the beach, for almost 30 years. And we stay put because those fucking "shelters" are jails and if you leave your animals, they are dead. Now you can see why people don't want to go....and almost always you do far better then the evacuees.

If we really feel the need to evacuate we'll either stay in a long term suite hotel (our insurance covers it) or if it we find out our house is habitable, we'll zoom right back before FEMA gets involved. I would not willingly go anywhere with the National Guard of FEMA. . .especially to a stadium.
