How Many Saw the Brooks, Oliphant and Paige interview on PBS?
Edited on Fri Sep-02-05 09:27 PM by Jokinomx
I was stunned ... their analysis was right on. This was taken from the text of the interview found on the PBS web site.

>snip<

New York Times columnist David Brooks:

"Our institutions completely failed us and it is not as if it is the first in the past three years -- this follows Abu Ghraib, the failure of planning in Iraq, the intelligence failures, the corporate scandals, the media scandals.

We have had over the past four or five years a whole series of scandals that soured the public mood. You've seen a rise in feeling the country is headed in the wrong direction."

When the public finds out that all the programs that Clinton put into place just for this type of catastrophe were radically reduced or eliminated all together, should infuriate everyone but lush rimbagh himself.

6. Nope. Slimy smarmy self-important Brooks.
Getting it right for once in his life.

There isn't one of us Bush would not leave to die.

14. Yup, Brooks. My jaw dropped.
He was great, said he and many Mepublicans were very angry at *, but then he said he may get over it with time, he didn't know, like he's still in shock that he feels such anger. I thought he was being very honest.

This discussion left me feeling that change is coming and soon.

2. Probably best thing I saw on TV today - esp. the way that Brooks,
whose shameless pandering for the misadministration flip flopped for all to see.

But - we all know how short the attention spans are these days. I think that all here at DU should press the media and our local politicians - send emails or letters, make calls - the regrettable misleader is on the ropes, but this is no time to return to the corner.

4. Yeah, I saw it. It was refreshing to hear some good analysis instead of
constant WTF?ing. I've been muttering curse words under my breath for the past few days and needed something less emotional, ya know? And he was dead on.

5. You left out the best part, or the scariest...
when they listed other American catastrophes and pointed out how they led to a radical change...I wish I could quote it.

The government failed...leading to an increased understanding of why we NEED it. The Johnstown Flood was caused by the private lake of some very rich men...people got really ticked...

I hated cheering such good analysis of a tragedy, but after tears and anger for days, hearing Brooks actualy voicing MY feelings: I was just amazed. Bush is toast!

8. Brooks woke up and smelled the coffee. This is the anti-911.
911 lulled much of a nation into a spell of fear and weakness.

Now, four years later, some are shrugging it off.

10. I posted about it earlier....
Tonight on PBS Lehrer News Hour, conservative David Brooks looked like a deer in the headlights. He senses the angry mood of the country and he noted that even he was mad at *.

The discussion basically said that this tragedy is going to be HUGH!! economically, culturally, and especially politically.

I got the sense that these talking heads expect a major change in America. I say it's about time.

13. I agree hwmnbn....
This should put number of * supporter at its lowest point yet and get some of his own to ask the questions that should have been asked a long time ago.

Hopefully this will be the catalyst for change.

12. Watching it right now on the West Coast.
Edited on Fri Sep-02-05 09:46 PM by swag
Brooks is stunned and stunning, and this event is forcing him to invoke Abu Ghraib, Iraq, and the horrible race and class crises that are again busting forth (though they haven't gone away, they have just gone undercover and gotten worse).

15. Great.... I am happy that your watching it....
I have been taping some of the news coverage about this event....I taped the entire interview. I have a brother that is in the middle of a move from one house to another and he has not had any television since last Saturday. He was glad that he will be able to see some of the coverage of the events unfolding.

Anyway.. thanks for your imput...:-) :toast:
