Could Katrina have possibly saved us from something worse ? |
|
There's been another hurricane brewing. Brewing around GWB the last few months. Polls numbers sinking like a stone, Iraq debacle coming clear to the American people, with casualties & Cindy, interest rates on the rise, Patrick Fitzgerald looming and more. This criminal administration has been looking like they were in the eye of a perfect Cat 5.
I've had a real bad feeling that something bad was going to happen, whether it was a "homemade" incident -- think Timothy McVeigh-- or some nasty nuclear attack on Iran. Anything to divert attention away from reality. And I'm still far from comforted that that or something else may not happen, but Katrina has become the focus in the Country, therefore making it a little more difficult to " pull something ."
The pain ,suffering and attention being paid to those Americans on the Gulf Coast may have shined a bigger light on GWB & Co, and it's greed and incompetence, thus halting or at least delaying the next phase of their "war on democracy"
Please Mr Fitzgerald...help us out here !

some people believe everything happens for a reason.
i have a hard time believing that if there is a higher power that he would kill 10,000 poor people to prevent W from killing more. hell he could get the same result by killing 1,000 rich whites :sarcasm:

...I don't have much trouble saying that of the two evils, Katrina is extraordinarily more vicious and destructive.
A gentle suggestion: politics is not as important as storm surges, burst levees, and coastal communities blown right off the map. Just as with religion, maintaining a sense of proportion in politics is important if you wish to proselytize the message.
Peace.

4. Thank you for your "gentle suggestion" and pardon me |

for more or less changing the subject, but as a boy, back in the "nifty fifties" one of the first lesson you learn in the ghetto, is, be careful when there are too many things happening at once. A dip (pickpocket) can only get you after a diversion has been created.
The subject of the day ( Katrina) is certainly on everyones radar. It appears to many to be the only thing out there. Well...it's sad & tragic and we will all be appropriately sad and frustrated, but it pays to keep your eye on the WHOLE picture.

3. What's worse than the distruction of a city of half a million? |
|
I cannot think of much of anything worse than this disaster short of nuclear conflagaration.

6. I hope it has saved us from anything worse. |

It's exceedingly bad but worse situations could arise. And you're right about watching your wallet when there's a big ruckus in a crowd. Which makes me wonder what's happening to the Treasury. . .
