9. I'm not so sure any more
Public opinion has changed almost overnight where I am. It seems to be the same way in a lot of other places too. Even for Bush, it will be hard to pull up from this one. Too many things have happened too close together, with Bush looking bad in all of them in some way. It feels like change to me.

19. Not just equipment and troops in Iraq, logistics experts tied up too.
Consider that most the experts in logistics (which is exactly what is needed during a natural disaster) are involved in the war effort, even if they are in the U.S. Iraq is a long way away (Afghanistan even more so), and it requires a long, long supply line. The military is obviously severely stretched by these efforts, and couldn't handle the additional effort necessitated by the hurricane, wherever they happened to be based.
