Had a bad experience with a RWinger today. I'm upset.
Had a serviceman in today to fix something in the office that he messed up, per the property manager. I've always thought he was a very nice person, and even though his prices (which our company pays) are a little high, he came highly recommended by the property management. When he was getting ready to leave he started talking about the hurricane situation. He turned out to be a real know-it-all. Went on and on. Said no one could have ever predicted the levee breakage. Everything I said about what I'd read, including quicker help for the citizens, was wrong. I even mentioned money diverted from the levee repairs for Iraq reparation, and he told me he didn't like how people politicize disasters, and that was totally untrue. (Was that wrong information that I had?) Then he said the people who left had cars and had made something of themselves. The others that stayed behind were just worrying about the welfare checks they weren't getting that they'd always lived on. I told him loudly that he was ticking me off, only that's not what I actually said (out of character for me, but I was mad). Now I'm still angry with him, but everyone I work with are very, very right wing. We just don't discuss politics. Don't know if they heard this exchange, but quite possibly. I like and need this job, so I hope this doesn't get me in a bad position.

Now I feel better for getting this off my chest. I will add that that serviceman won't be doing anymore work for us, as I get to make that decision.

22. Pirhana, did I see you on the Arizona board? Do you live anywhere near
Phoenix? If my very right-wing co-workers didn't like my responses to the repairman, I may need to look elsewhere!! I'm a little worried. I kind of get the feeling that some of them agree with his opinions. That's their business, but I don't want to cause a problem for myself. We all work with people with differing opinions on something. I've worked there for years and said nothing, even during the election, but this guy really got on my raw nerves.

Thank you to all for making me feel OK about speaking my mind to the serviceperson.

23. I live in Chandler, but you probably don't want to work where I work.
I work for a very very large corporation, and I am living in the
classic example of a corporation that is making soooooo much $$$$$$, and the employees and the customers don't get a thing.

I work with all republicans, except for one, and she is not involved politically. In fact, when she told me that she was voting for Kerry, she told me in a whisper.

We are going to have a meet-up in AZ next month. Make sure you check it out.

mocking people's suffering. Many of your co-workers may have friends or family affected.

17. Actually, I had a co-worker tell me today that he doesn't understand, if
it was so bad, why the people just didn't walk out the the city. This person just spent his summer vacation in Europe and Russia, touring the sites, so sadly I don't think some of them would understand. It is very hard to bite my tongue, and I've been able to do it for a long, long time. Now, my nerves are shredded.

5. This is a good place to come rant, we understand and listen
Some people just don't want to see things how they are, it is too scary or they just don't want to see and it is very upsetting to deal with them with life and death things going on. Hand him a copy of October 2004 National Geographic and point out the article starting page 88. It predicts what happened in a really spooky way. And know you are right and he is wrong and he is a closed minded fool. peace

6. I knew they'd start saying this.
Then he said the people who left had cars and had made something of themselves.

I'm not really surprised by this. Even before the hurricane hit and people were moving into the Superdome, I knew people were going to say this kind of stuff about who left and who had to stay.

8. Sounds like he was a secretly racist asshole.
You should show him the pictures of those thousands of poor blacks and others trapped. That will get him to stop his rant.

11. Sometimes, when it's this tragic, you have to speak your mind
I'm done being quiet.

Before the election last Fall, my neighbor put a sign in her yard in such a way that I couldn't miss it - "Christians Against Kerry". I'm still ticked about it.

Tonight, my husband made a 3' x 4' sign - "Heathens Against Torturing Poor Black People", positioned in such a way that she won't miss it.

I am going to scream about this until someone listens.

18. Oh this is Great! The response of these holier than thou 'Christians'
on the brain dead Terry Schiavo Case who FELT NO PAIN, compared to the god-awful 5 days of torture of half a million people is shameful, and this should be rubbed in their noses as often as possible, IMO. Compassionate conservative is truly an oxymoron. The comparison of these two situations (the response time of Schiavo and the victims of Katrina) is as ludicrous as the hypocritical positions of those who will defend the unborn, but support the death penalty and the illegal, immoral Iraq War, and not provide for the same fetuses when they reach school age or need health care.

14. He's swallowed the RW talking points hook, line, and sinker....
I feel for you. I work around conservatives too, and spend a lot of time
biting my tongue.

Today one of my co-workers started to repeat some Fox News crap she'd
heard, and I just said, "Well, that's the kind of perspective that Fox pushes,
and so I don't necessarily believe it." My co-worker looked like it had never
occured to her that Fox News wasn't 100% correct! But she likes me, and
I think I may have had a slight impact.

Those with little self-worth need someone to look down on.

They are to be pitied. And soundly thrashed.
