4. By order of the Dept of Homeland Security
He said it's on the Red Cross FAQ page, but I can't find it.

5. I believe it was Homeland Security.
He is talking about it now. Apparently the reasoning given was that they didn't want "those people getting too comfortable to where they didn't want to leave" by being fed.
:wtf:

6. Yeah, I was going to say... as per last night, some weird stuff...
going on...

At 1:30 am last night/this early morning, someone posted here that CNN was reporting people being told they could not leave NO... They were turned back into the city...

People today have posted that they were turned away by someone. Now the local police/sheriffs are saying "No, I didn't turn them away", but mayor's are saying FEMA is 'creating obstacles'...

I saw a reporter on yesterday on WWL that had 'snuck' past the NG: He was told 'no reporters can enter', and added 'we uh, got around that'...went on with his report.

There's some strange crap going on...

16. I said it before and I think either my point went unnoticed or I went
unnoticed (:) ), but these people are material witnesses to what is happening in New Orleans.
We know what * does to material witnesses.

7. They might've screwed up the stage-managed convoy/Chimp show.
Can't have that. They worked too hard on that timing. (I'm surprised we didn't hear the bugles blaring while Smirk played John Wayne.)

9. BUSHCO cooked those people alive so they would 'act up'
Then they would claim they were too violent to save. People on the ground got truth out about it. Bless those tellers of truth.

Iraq is a mess for the same reason: Bush* does not fathom that people without food, water, and losing hope, will not behave like the attendees at his $2000 a plate fund raisers. He wants them to behave just so before he will send relief, but can't wrap his head around the fact that it is the LACK of relief that triggers desperate acts.

Now, Cheney and Rove, on the other hand, DO understand. And there is where we need to aim intense light.

http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/050901/phth002a.html?.v=3

The American Red Cross, Salvation Army and other charitable organizations that typically are the first to respond to disaster sites with food and water have been kept out of the city.

“Access to New Orleans is controlled by the National Guard and local authorities,” said Gregg Tubbs, a spokesman for the American Red Cross. “The Red Cross can’t get in there. We can’t enter New Orleans against their orders.”

19. it hurts my heart because I have a very good
opinion of the Red Cross and I know this particular talking point has stopped people from donating to them.
The Red Cross is always there. Always.
The only thing I can figure out is that if they don't give to the Red Cross that they will give to Pat Robertson's charity.
Isn't it second on the list?

Red Cross

* Acess to New Orleans is controlled by the National Guard and local authorities and while we are in constant contact with them, we simply cannot enter New Orleans against their orders.

* The state Homeland Security Department had requested--and continues to request--that the American Red Cross not come back into New Orleans following the hurricane. Our presence would keep people from evacuating and encourage others to come into the city.

21. Holy shit...straight from the FAQs on the Red Cross website
# Acess to New Orleans is controlled by the National Guard and local authorities and while we are in constant contact with them, we simply cannot enter New Orleans against their orders.

# The state Homeland Security Department had requested--and continues to request--that the American Red Cross not come back into New Orleans following the hurricane. Our presence would keep people from evacuating and encourage others to come into the city.

# The Red Cross has been meeting the needs of thousands of New Orleans residents in some 90 shelters throughout the state of Louisiana and elsewhere since before landfall. All told, the Red Cross is today operating 149 shelters for almost 93,000 residents.

# The Red Cross shares the nation’s anguish over the worsening situation inside the city. We will continue to work under the direction of the military, state and local authorities and to focus all our efforts on our lifesaving mission of feeding and sheltering.

# The Red Cross does not conduct search and rescue operations. We are an organization of civilian volunteers and cannot get relief aid into any location until the local authorities say it is safe and provide us with security and access.

# The original plan was to evacuate all the residents of New Orleans to safe places outside the city. With the hurricane bearing down, the city government decided to open a shelter of last resort in the Superdome downtown. We applaud this decision and believe it saved a significant number of lives.

# As the remaining people are evacuated from New Orleans, the most appropriate role for the Red Cross is to provide a safe place for people to stay and to see that their emergency needs are met. We are fully staffed and equipped to handle these individuals once they are evacuated.

23. He asked if people understood the implications of ordering the Red Cross
to stay out.
In essence, they are ordering them to let these people die.
