Is this the beginning of the end of the US? |
|
Worse case, my opinion only:
1) Actual death toll will be 50,000, but we will never be told.
2) Energy prices so high that low wage earners will not be able to afford the gas to get to work.
3) Racial tensions rise due to treatment of our taxpaying "refugees". Urban unrest, looting on a national scale, civil war.
4) Unemployment rate skyrockets. Stocks plummet. We are plunged into a depression.
5) Terrorist attack on major city. With our resources strained it is everyman for himself. Our health care system collapses in tandem with the economy.
6) America becomes the wild west.
Sorry to be so negative, but all of the shit that has happened so far I never believed could. this does not seem so far fetched to me.

If the unrest and anger in New Orleans spreads across the country we are in BIG trouble. Unfortunately all of your scenarios are very real possibilities that deserve some thought about.

But I just don't know nowadays. Sometimes I think we'll be OK and others I think we're fucked.

6. I never could wrap my brain around 3rd world conditions here |

People would stay stuff about it being possible, especially with peak oil issues, and while I agreed with them I never could picture it really happening.
I FULLY can now.

8. We desperately NEED an FDR |

NOT another DLC-er who will sit on the fence and talk about political strategy and economic theory. We need someone who will bring us RESULTS, and FAST.
We are quickly heading into something MUCH WORSE than the Great Depression, folks. I hope someone steps forward and raises hell soon!

what will happen, but we are standing at the threshold of a new America right now. Much depends on majority of people finally waking up to the fact, we can be left to die in the streets in America. If this hits them hard, as it should, perhaps we the people will come together. If not I fear we are doomed. I can not predict how bad it will be. But after the past few days I know it will be bad. Who would have ever believed we would see America stoop to this.

I almost hope so. this country obviously needs to be taken back to formula (IE The Constitution) and a whole bunch of people who actually care and believe in it put in office. If we have to reach our lowest point to rise again then lets get it over with.

The majority population in the US hasn't been in control for a VERY long time.
The situation in NOLA has awoken more people than anyone could have every imagined.
Now that they're awake, they're NOT going back to sleep. And now the work begins.
The country is not going 3rd world. In fact 180degrees opposite.

Ever since, the Neo-Cons and GOP fat cat thugs have been dismantling our democracy for their personal gain and world agenda.
Don’t kid yourself. Our democracy is dead and these thugs and harlots don’t give a hoot about human life unless it concerns their prosperity. And that includes the spineless, centrist Democrats that pretend to represent the people.
If only a flood could banish them all and yet save the people. It would save the people and spark a blow to the corporations that currently dictate the * policy based on campaign contributions. For instance, why was Capital One (a major sponsor of the bankruptcy bill) also a co-sponsor of the GE Katrina charade?
The bankruptcy bill takes effect next month and these people have lost everything. Homes. Jobs. Credit. FEMA. They have nothing now or going forward unless they were lucky enough to be insured.
