A little good news out there tonight from Corporate America
A close relative works for FedEx. This person says that FedEx is going to keep all of its employees affected by Hurricane Katrina on the payrolls for an indefinite period of time, regardless of whether these folks are actually working or not. Further, they have set up a system whereby displaced employees whose banks have been destroyed can get their paychecks and cash them at other locations for no cost. For their centers which have been destroyed, they have pledged to give those workers employment in another plant and to help with relocation and re-training when they get there.

I was so pleased when I heard this tonight. There's at least one large corporation caring about what happens to its employees.

14. well, it may be face saving...
but if I were an employee who was going to get paid through this disaster, I guess I'd be feeling like there was some soul there.

10. I Think Harrahs (Casinos)
Is going to pay their employees (from Gulf Coast region) base salary for at least 90 days.

that's not great, espcially for a tipped employee who only gets a pittance for base, but it is better than nothing.
