Let's try to figure this OUT!
Okay, today the NG finally comes in. There's no way the water was any lower today than it has been, so obviously they waited to come in. Lots of threads on why this might have been.

But...THIS IS TOO WEIRD: WHY, WHY did they all leave tonight? They've locked up all the people at the Convention Center and have established roadblocks to keep people from leaving the city.

1/2 the police have quit, and so there's "a curfew" in the city, I guess because of the danger. But if it's so dangerous, WHY DID THE MILITARY LEAVE?!??

It's completely illogical! And why isn't anybody talking about it? Not here, I mean on TV? Shepherd Smith mentioned it briefly but his segment wasn't very long, before Hannity shut him down.

WHAT IS GOING ON???

2. Everything is consistent with disease quarantine, BUT...
I read an infectious diseases are highly unlikely...

In a city swallowed by water, public- health officials warn that the most serious threat to the people still trying to survive in New Orleans is, ironically, the lack of water - specifically, clean drinking water.

Despite appalling images including floating corpses and bloated animal carcasses, which have triggered worst-case fears in a stunned nation watching on TV, public-health experts say the odds of a massive disease epidemic like cholera or typhus or malaria in the Gulf states are extremely slim. Those terrifying water- and insect-borne diseases have been essentially dormant in the United States for decades.

Some doctors have raised concerns about tuberculosis, noting that if any of the thousands of people camped out at the Superdome since Sunday had an active case, anyone nearby could have become infected.

TB, where it exists in the United States, tends to affect poor people in urban areas. And, with the stress and exhaustion of the last few days, hurricane refugees are likely to have diminished immune systems.

4. uh-huh. Mike Osterholm, director of the center for study
of infectious disease at U. of Minnesota, former epidemiologist for the state, warns that infectious disease outbreaks are highly likely.
There's a fetid soup of raw sewage, animal carcasses, human bodies, rats, mice, toxic chemicals ready to explode.
The clincher, he said, is that a huge hatch of mosquitos is due about now.
The river is too deep and water moves too fast for large scale breeding but all the new vast areas of standing water are ideal places for mosquitoes to breed.
It's coming and not much can be done tostop it.

44. Mike Osterholm traded his ethics for fame and joined the spooks
His book "Living Terrors, What America Needs to know to Survive the Coming Bio terror Catastrophe" advocates nationalizing all the state health departments and having them stockpile and ration antibiotics, antivirals and other meds. That doesn't sound too unreasonable but then he goes on to advocate any state who does not toe the line would not get help during a national disaster. Sound familiar? Who decides what "the line" is, Rove?

He has been withholding antibiotics from Minnesotans with Lyme Disease for years. Already blood on his hands. He knows better he just gets fame, power and money for consorting with these neofascist scum.

3. It pays off with racism in the surround states. Bush let it get to a
and now that it is - people in neighbouring states are terrified of the lawlessness.

A good long "reconnect" with his base.

They will not be solving the issue anytime soon. Simply putting people on busses and directed every single bus to a different town and church group across the USA would have solved that problem.

But Bush does not want to solve the problem.

He gets votes that way.

leaving the city in a big convoy right behind him. Geraldo said at the Convention Center, there were about four-six cops right around him and no other authorities as far as the eye could see.

WTF is happening?!?

21. Military convoy left, people are not allowed to leave, and
the Red Cross is not allowed in. That is what I have found out so far.

Is there any kind of reason given for anything? I'm still trying to collect the news for the day, and so far, I've gained very little information.

I realize you don't know what is going on, but what is going on? Do you have any idea? Any speculation? Things are supposed to be getting better. This is not better. Why are people not allowed to leave New Orleans, and who gave that order?

Tell me anything you know while I search around for more news. Thanks.

26. A partial video is at crooksandliars, but the beginning
is cut off...where the relief convoy is leaving.

Smith says there's a "command post" but then also says nobody knows anything, that the people on the bridge have nothing, and that people are not allowed to leave. Geraldo (just down the road or underneath or something) is on the video, screaming for people to be let out of there.

Very very scary.

42. Convention Center?
Someone said he was asking for people to be let out of there.

I asked someone in a different thread why good samaritans bringing aid were not being allowed into New Orleans. This was the response:

The reason FEMA gave them is they don't want aid going in because it will make the people want to stay where they are.

no video. However, this seems to be something worth listening to.

I can't belive what is going on today. I'm still scrounging for news, but it seems that things have not improved. The rescue efforts are not truly underway.

The Coast Guard has been rescuing people all along. Good for them. I know the occupants of the Superdome (around 20,000) have been sent to the Astrodome, etc. Other than that, what has been done?

Thanks for the link.

And those people are at much higher risk than the people at the Convention Center. The people in their homes are likely still dying of dehydration.

they leave after dropping off what they have. Also they have planned after seeing what they need to do. Then tomorrow they tighten the area, and when they control an area large enough to keep any images escaping...they will let them out to busses, and then can meter out people as they clean furiously the most appalling situations such as dead and murdered bodies.

Then they can say that these are just "urban legends" when it starts to be brought up.

They will admit to some old people dying, but inside that cursed dome are things that would make us shake with horror.

The city's flooded, right? SO where are these NG troops going to set up a base camp? In a dry place outside the city. yes, they could work 48 hours straight, but when people do that (even in an emergency), mistakes are made. They'll be back in the morning is my guess. They also probably don't have the equipment to operate at night (it's in Iraq) or the manpower/resources to operate multiple shifts (also in Iraq).

Shep and Geraldo both insisted that the people in the Convention Center are locked in, the people on the bridge are not being permitted to leave because the way out (toward Gretna - Westbank Expressway I'm thinking?) has been barricaded with a checkpoint.

Geraldo says, Let these people go! Let them go find food, water, help, anything. I take from that that they've been abandoned, at least for another night.

This is horrific beyond imagination and I am breaking down myself over here.
