Has anyone heard if Charity Hospital has been evacuated yet?
I heard they got to Tulane Hospital earlier today, but Charity seems to have fallen off the charts and they were really hurting there.

5. Nope
They have been slated for evac for 2 days, but they were still there this morning.

HCA which manages Tulane U. hired a bunch of helicopters and security to evac that hospital.

Our fucking goverment leaves the charity hospital to suffer.

8. Tulane was evac'd, but not Charity
Aaron Brown and Sanjay Gupta made a big point out of the fact that it's the public hospital, where the poor people go. Tulane had the people with insurance. Even their staff is now out, instead of helping get the Charity patients out.

14. If they did they haven't mentioned it on the news.
I hadn't heard of Tulane till today. Nothing about Charity though.

If those doctors, nurses and patients are still there I will explode. Again.

7. This is so outrageous
They had perfectly healthy people evacuated and while Charity has been on the news repeatedly on CNN, they are still not evacuated.

Goes to show you that our government seemingly wants them to die for they are are Medicaid/Medicare.

We have a new method for budget deficit reduction by the Bush administration, death.

Hospital evacuation update
Friday 9:30 p.m.

The total evacuation of the 2,200 storm-stranded patients and staff at Charity and University hospitals is now complete, a top hospital official said Friday night.

About 150 staff and students at the affiliated Medical Education Building downtown are still holed up in their facility but should be moved out soon, said Don Smith Burg, chief executive officer of the Louisiana State University Hospital System, which oversees the medical institutions.

“The buildings are empty,” Burg said, marking the end of an exhausting week of privation at the public hospitals, where supplies of basic provisions ran so low that some staff inserted IV solutions in their arms to stay hydrated.

Some staff members abstained from food and water for days so that the 363 patients would have sufficient nutrition, Burg said. The patients included 28 babies.

Three of the patients died as rescuers were evacuating them, Burg said.

Not the outcome that should have been, but at least they're out of there. Dead or alive.

put out by the hospital workers. Those doctors and nurses who kept their patients alive at the risk of their own well being are really just some of the most heroic people on the planet.
