MSNBC covering Kanye West's comments in some detail |
|
West may come out of this okay, as people aren't just burying the story.

I don't know too much about Mr. West, but kudos to him speaking the truth about the situation.

3. West is often slammed by other rappers for being "not black enough" |
|
i.e. he doesn't sing "gangsta" songs, he wears preppy clothes, he didn't come from "the 'hood" (a TIME interview indicated he's the son of a college professor). So when it's Kanye as opposed to Snoop Dogg who's saying this sort of thing, I think more people will listen.

4. Kanye will come out of this great, his fan base feels the same way. |
|
I don't think Bush fans oblivious to race and class issues buy his music anyway.
He'll be fine--and this is coming from someone who thinks he's a drama queen and a megalomaniac.

6. CNN airing his comments repeatedly. Kanye West is an impressive young man |

and he is passionate and articulate. He said that the media was portraying white people as "taking" and black people as "looting" (Do you think he's been reading DU?) and (the real kicker) he said that "President Bush does not care about black people."
MSNBC said they don't support his comments (the looter/taker comment or the * comment?) and has issued a statement saying he departed from the "scripted staements." No shit.
Good for him. Speaking truth to power. I may have to go buy one of his CDs.
