4. Then why the fuck are they bothering at all? |
|
I don't know whether the waters are navigable at all, but even if they are not, they should be close enough to effect some kind of help.
Of course, we'll never know, seeing as it didn't even leave until last night.

9. from experience, I can tell you: the waters are not safe |
|
I've seen entire sandbars disappear and new ones spring up from the hurricanes. There's all kinds of crap in the water and under the water. A big ship gets stuck, and all kinds of resources are wasted. Any other ship comes to help could get stuck too.
Getting 'close to shore' doesnt help at all

..and it isn't like that it is a jet plane, travel on the water takes more time, especially a ship that large.

10. How about getting the Stena HSS 1500 |
|
It can get to New Orleans quicker... 1,500 passengers, 375 cars, operating speed 46 mph. Those ferries are the size of a sport stadium and can travel at highway speeds. You can also fit an entire hospital in there... http://www7.stenaline.ie/servlet/se.ementor.econgero.servlet.presentation.Main?data.node.id=10450&data.language.id=2

6. The MIssissippi, perhaps, but not the Gulf, Atlantic or Pacific... |
|
They could get them in close, at the very least.

7. Both hospital ships are going |
|
I heard this morning that both the Comfort and the Mercy will be enroute to the Gulf.
I suppose they do need hospital facilities to replace what they have set up at the airport but is it too little too late?
