NO GAS in my part of Queens, New York City
The local BP has shut down and says they are out of gas. Yesterday, I was driving in various parts of the borough, and gas prices ranged from $3.69 to $3.89, up nearly $1.00 since before the hurricane

good mass transit. There are places though that don't. I didn't get my drivers license until I was 25. There was no need to.

On edit... the mass transit up here where I live now in upper Westchester County is practically non-existant.

5. We're beyond the subway lines, but we have buses, but it's really just ...
that I'm amazed that gas stations are running out of gas. I read one estimate that some east coast cities have only 1 or 2 days of stored gas left.

It reminds me of the gas lines of the 1970s.

The big pipelines are apparently back on line, but the one that comes as far as New Jersey, on which NYC relies, is operating at 70% capacity.

There is little hope of avoiding shortages at this point.

6. I was anticipating this. I filled up my tank then and gave my son some
money to fill his up too. I'm going out now and will see what the situation looks like here today and if they're open will top-off. My car gets great mileage, in the high 20s, so I should be ok for a while.

7. I just came back, and seems to be no gas crisis here. I paid $3.49 for
regular. It flipped me out as I was only topping off my tank and it cost $12!

8. Queens has an excellent bus system
Large parts of northeastern Queens (Whitestone, Bayside, Douglaston, etc.) are beyond the reach of the subways, but the bus system there is excellent, and can get you to the Main Street Flushing 7 Line in 30 minutes or less.

9. I know! I used to live across from Queens College and there are buses that
go to Flushing, Jamaica and Forest Hills. All of those destinations not only had lots of shopping, movie theaters, but also subways into the city. I had my choice of the E, F and 7 Line. There is also an express bus that goes into Midtown Manhattan a block away.

It was also a real neighborhood with shops and restaurants in easy walking distance. That's why I didn't have to drive until my 20s.

I love it up here where I live, but miss all of those conveniences, where most everything here depends on having a car.

11. Lol! No, the Fleur De Lis. A small apartment bldg on the corner of
Kissena and Melbourne. It has since become condos since I moved 25 years ago. I had friends who lived in Pomonok. :-)
