FOXNEWS: Mayor Nagin intervened to help tourists escape New Orleans before people in Superdome
Fox News - O'Reilly | September 2, 2005 | nwrep

Posted on 09/02/2005 8:44:35 PM PDT by nwrep

Shepard Smith eyewitness report on O'Reilly: Mayor Ray Nagin intervened today to help tourists (many foreigners) staying at the upscale W hotel downtown escape New Orleans ahead of many of the people in the Superdomw. Tourists were shipped in buses to the Superdome and other connecting buses took them to safety.

Black Mayor Ray Nagin favors "W" tourists. Imagine that headline after all the racist garbage thrown at the President.

2. interesting
in that a tourist at the Hyatt said they tried to get out on Saturday and the planes were cancelled. Don't tell me that the NO mayor had anything to do with that.

10. I have yet to see any PROOF whatsoever ...

... of significant crime under a literally lawless situation. When the civil structure falls apart, law cannot exist. When the citizens do not offer the right hand of support, they cannot offer the left hand of punishment.

Furthermore, there is absolutely no evidence whatsoever that the 'crime' rate in the last five days has been above an average crime rate in New Orleans for any five-day period.

4. Everyone who has thrown this latest charge at the Mayor
have provided NO proof of this, none whatsoever. Until there is proof, I believe it was Brown, the asshole in charge of FEMA, who okayed this, it fits with the 'haves and have mores' philosophy of the bush admin.

5. I want this story checked out
If it's true, it's an outrage, and I will not spare Nagins from criticism, but right now I want some more verification than Fox News. This same story appeared in the KC Star, and no mention was made of the Mayor intervening at all.

9. The State and the Feds failed Nagin
Edited on Sat Sep-03-05 11:19 AM by GloriaSmith
He's a Mayor. His powers are limited. Imagine for one moment your city needed to be evacuated in 24 hours or less. Does your Mayor have the resources to evacuate you and your neighbors? I like my Mayor but I'm not convinced he could do it any better. States need evacuation plans and the Mayors need federal assistance...not 5 or 6 days later, but actual assistance the moment they know an evacuation needs to happen. It's apparent that LA and FEMA had no plan for this area and people died because of it.

As for Ray Nagin, I recommend a suicide watch for the guy. I can only imagine the amount of blame he's putting on himself right now.
