Here's some Katrina relief agencies in Houston

http://www.katrina-houston.com/

This is a good list to start with, if you wish to do something to help. I can't vouch for the legitamacy of them all, but you have the contact info for them and can check them out.

I originally found this here:

http://houston.craigslist.org/vol/95165414.html

where there is a lot of info on the Houston Craigslist site (http://houston.craigslist.org/)

4. The state is showing how big a heart it has.
AstroDome full, talk of opening up George R. Brown convention center. All Red Cross shelters are full, trying to get more places opened. Commercial airlines are shipping in supplies to NOLA, shipping out people to TX and surroundings. Given the magnitude of this disaster, seems like they're ironing out what needs to be done. Can you post your info in the TX forum? Might give people an idea of what'd available to contribute to.

7. I just sent a donation to this group to get Katrina victims Net access
"TechforAll (http://www.techforall.org/) is setting up a internet-ready network in the Astrodome/Reliant Park area to be used for administative purposes in the relief effort, as public access machines for refugees to attempt to contact missing loved ones, and as a resource for seeking longer-term housing or jobs. They installed today, and will need additional volunteers in the immediate future."

Blog describes their activity and tells how to donate:
