Anyone knwo anything about food insurance dealing with mortgages?
Edited on Sat Sep-03-05 09:55 AM by SouthernDem2004
I do not have flood ins due to where I live. The storm surge made it to my house anyway. Reading my mortgage paperwork it states that if we do not get flood ins they will. Anyone know anything about this kind of thing?

2. Flood insurance
is obtained via the Federal Government, and is not covered by homeowner's insurance. I'm sorry to give you such bad news.

But I'm very glad to know you are safe! When things get less hectic, please let us here at DU know what we can do to help you.

5. I know but most mortgages require flood ins. Mine states that they can
not require me to get it due to where I live but they will get it if I do not. Little curious as to what it covers and how to find out. My mortgage company is in Mississippi so I can not contact them.

8. I"m glad to hear you had that provision
the last time I bought a house on a flood plain, the feds were just getting into flood insurance, and it was required (but then in the '30s my house had been under 25 feet of water!). Since I now live on the side of a mountain in the Ozarks, I don't know what insurance companies say in regards to flood insurance.

I sure hope you are able to find out something soon. Again, please let us know if there is anything we at DU can do for you or your family.

 A lot of DUers (including myself) were worried about you!

Very glad to see you, SouthernDem2004.

Wish I had some great insurance information to give you, but I'm totally clueless when it comes to that type of stuff (not a homeowner myself)

4. It might be worthwhile to find a lawyer.
whether or not water damage is covered depends on how the source of the water is defined.

And always remember that insurance adjuster--regardless of what the commercials say--is not there to help you. He is there is save the insurance company money.

7. Thought about a lawyer but their offices are all gone and they are
probably busy with personal issues.

6. I'm so glad you're here!!! Now about that ins.
ins will cover your home for hurrican damage ie......wind, if you can prove that the water damage was caused by high winds they may pay up but you should also contact FEMA, i would think they would have people in the area but don't count on it, seek them out.

9. FEMA is all over the place but they will not help until the insurance
company makes its decision.
