The future of New Orleans, in my opinion, is that it will become a
"frontier town"-a hardship post-where the essential workers, lured by high pay, work in the refineries and port facilities. They will live there without their families. There will be bars, casinos and prostitutes, but no schools or culture. The country can probably survive without what New Orleans was, but not without what it did. Sad thoughts.

3. You might have something there.

They have geography on their side, being at the mouth of the Big Muddy. And the refineries and the chemical plants won't abandon their investments easily. The need for essential workers is the best hope New Orleans has for a revival.

5. Actually, I tend to agree with what Randi Rhodes said yesterday.
She felt that the developers would come in, put up big hotels, etc and turn it into Miami Beach for the rich.

6. I think Bush/Cheney have other plans, unless we stop them.
Who bets a military base? Something is going on that isn't right.

It seems they are responding to this very much like their invasion of Iraq.
