Ok...it's time to ask corporate America to stand up and help
Edited on Sat Sep-03-05 11:12 AM by VelmaD
I've been reading threads about some of the things the evacuees need and listening to my local news about it and figured along with buying stuff ourselves...maybe we could talk to some corporations and let them know how much we'd appreciate it if they helped out...not just with money but with products that those in shelters really need. So here are some ideas...feel free to add links.

Clothing:

And for the women some important things that often get overlooked:

4. It is the LEAST they can do!
Great idea!

I would like to see communications centers set up at the shelters by the phone companies. Let the families that are separated get in touch as soon as possible.

7. A letter if you need a template...

Please consider donating goods for disaster relief. I am a loyal customer who has used your products for years as I am sure is true of many of the survivors of Hurricane Katrina. So many people are in need, and you have the resources to help.

Many corporations have pledged to help victims of this disaster. I hope yours will join the list of corporate donors.

I have heard some corporations are providing paychecks to their employees whose lives were impacted by this storm. In times of national emergency, even corporations can be good Americans and decent neighbors. Thank you for any help you can provide.

9. It would be a tremendous help if the wireless phone cos would pitch in.

I'm sure almost all those people who have been shuffled around are frantic to contact or at least learn the whereabouts of people they have been separated from.

Likewise the computer people and ISP's. They could set up banks of computers in the temp shelters to do the same thing.

Ed: Sorry RadiFan, just saw your post. Didn't mean to step on your toes.

10. It's time to TAX them
they can probably "write off" every cent of any relief they "donate."

11. Ya know...we can get into how...
they need to close corporate tax loopholes some other time. I have a feeling you and I will agree on that topic. For today...I just want them to open up their warehouses and make sure none of the evacuees suffers any more. I don't care if they do it out of generosity or becuase they can write it off or because they're publicly shamed into doing it...as long as they do it.

12. Another moment of truth for "conservatives" & again they're AWOL
When there's a photo-op or tax cut, the rich man "cometh." When its time to get to work, the rich man "runneth."

15. We did this at work yesterday
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x4608050

An email later in the day said we did $2.6 billion in business in August (mortgage company) so hopefully the company, and not just the individuals will kick in something too.
