Slow response as a teaching tool? |
|
What lesson have we learned here...because of the slow response? What lesson do they want us to learn? We have learned it well...and the next threat to homeland security..will come with the slogan.."remember New Orleans". The importance of martial law..and the importance of installing it rapidly and even before anything occurs is the lesson being taught to us..and we are learning it like very eager students...we are demanding it! Soon, we will face many shortages in our country..of oil and gasoline...of food supply and electricity..of all the basics of survival as we know it...and we are learning now..that martial law will be implemented..and the next time, it will be rapid response martial law...and it will be everywhere...and it will be often.

1. I caught that "lesson" but am more interested in accountability. |
|
When they're on trial for crimes against humanity this plan for an "object lesson" can be dredged up.

2. I think that many are learning a different lesson: |
|
When a major terrorist attack occurs, don't rely on the Bush Administration to do anything about it until a suitably campaign-able photo-op can be staged.
And if the attack occurs in a city with vocal Democratic representation, expect that Democrat to be condemned for failing to do more to prevent/ameliorate the attack.

4. All part of the plan.... |

doncha know! Since we have shown ourselves, as a nation, to be reliant on the federal government in times past, we must be weaned from that approach. So, the best way to diminish the importance of the gov. is to portray it as a useless entity, and promote, instead, total self-reliance and that rugged individualism shown by our forefathers, you know, like Bush, who has always taken his own path and made lemonade from the lemons handed him at birth.:sarcasm: :sarcasm: :sarcasm: :sarcasm: :sarcasm: :sarcasm: :sarcasm: :sarcasm: :sarcasm: :sarcasm: :sarcasm:
The Sarcasm smiley only applies to the last part, about *, who, if shit was brains or courage, couldn't blow his nose. I am quite sincere about the rest of it.

5. I'm planning a Katrina unit for my 7th grade social studies class... |
|
I'm going to integrate with science & health: Students will present the problem (pre-hurricane), explain what happened - long and short-term effects, and discuss what could've happened differently to save lives.
I'm kicking around doing a roleplay with groups of students representing Federal govt, local/state govt and citizenry.
I'm compiling a set of newspaper articles that best summarize the events from many different perspectives. Any links would be helpful.
