Encounter at Walmart..

So, my friend, who apparently looks like a terrorist to some insane rethugs on long island, was shopping at walmart (don't ask me why) when an older man with an "I support our troops" shirt on walked up to him and said "You terrorist sons of bitches fucked up new orleans didnt you!"
Now, I don't know about the rest of you, but to me this is fucking absurd. What would you have said in response?

The main difference are that there isn't the same degree of historical, institutional racism. People also, on average, keep it under wraps better. But there's a little Bull Connor in many folks' hearts.

I refer you to Michael Blakeley's work on the African Burial Grounds in New York. The city of NY was going to bulldoze the damn site and bury it underneath a parking lot or something similiar.

Other archaeologists in the area are attempting to prove that slavery was just as concentrated if not more so than the south. The racism in the north wasn't institutionalized by the state, rather by the major corporations that gave white employees cash bonuses and African-American employees trinkets as bonuses. That's the only difference in the racism in the South and in the North. One was practiced by the state, the other by the corporations.
