Bush's hurricane response delay makes sick sense
to all the people who voted for him.

Being a pro-gun leftist, I haunt many of the web gun forums quite a bit to get shooting advice. However, as one would expect, you get a lot of rabid crackpots who think Bush is a demigod who can do no wrong.

Many on these forums are expressing not one iota of support for those stranded in New Orleans. In fact, they think that what's happening is good. The federal government has no obligation to those people because they should have left the city. Those that stayed behind are welfare parasites expecting yet another government handout from FEMA. Then, of course, you get the typical BS about welfare moms with 10 kids in the projects who stayed to be with their crack dealing boyfriends, etc etc...

The point of all this is that these are the people who came out in droves in 2004 to vote for Bush. He was deliberately slow to respond to this disaster for fear that he would look like a bleeding heart if he took swift, decisive action. Of course progressives are upset over how he has reacted. However, the Bush crowd doesn't give a damn about what we think. He plays to his base over and over again.

Bottom line: Bush's base thinks that the people left behind in New Orleans got exactly what they deserved. And, as we saw last November, these people vote.

3. Moreover, he made government look like it COULDN'T handle
the problem. I can just hear it: "Government's no good at disasters -- look what happened in NO! It's time to privatize disaster recovery and inject a little healthy competition into the process..."

The terrorists watched the NOLA disaster with interest.
It was a good barometer of federal readiness.

Not liking it too well, either.
