"My dad was a republican because he was in WWII and was very patriotic"
Edited on Sat Sep-03-05 12:55 PM by JohnnyRingo
That's what a friend of mine told me yesterday in a discussion about how his mother turned against Buxh after his dad died last year.

I happen to know that if someone dropped a hundred dollar bill and a flag in front of his businessman dad .... that bill would never touch the ground.

I'm getting sick of the divisive brainwashing of this out of control republican party.
It's starting to come between me and my friends.

3. Funny...the Republicans were AGAINST getting involved in WWII
How'd they forget that they were isolationist all the way up until the Japanese invaded US Territories and nearly annihilated our Pacific fleet?

Right... same way they forget everything.

17. I'm good friends with his liberal wife. (marriage made in heaven)
I do have other Bushbot friends though.

It's getting hard to find a way to avoid heated debate while trying to find a neutral topic to discuss with them.
Current events is out, and I'm not a "sports nut". I find myself cruising the "weird news" sites to find material for civil discussion.

The Clinton years seemed like cruise control by comparison, only having to debate a stained dress with my pub friends.

6. My pops, the Democrat, fought commies in China during WWII
while his older brother, the republican, made a shit load of money manufacturing electronic components for the Southern California airplane industry during the war.

7. Poo
My father-in-law was in WWII, is very patriotic and is a Democrat. So there.

This Republicans-are-the-only-ones-who-are-patriotic nonsense is bullshit.

8. My dad was also in WW2 "Battle of the Bulge" vet...
...and was a proud FDR/Labor Dem until the day he died (and a bit of a loudmouth, according to contemporaries). Everyone says I'm just like him.

10. yeah well, my papaw was a WWII vet and he's a liberal
A liberal I tell ya. And patriotic, and never drafted. Volunteered with two baby boys at home. Served 2 tours, lost his best friends and every brother he had (which is 5). Earned all kinds of medals, and is now a 33rd degree mason. But what difference does it make if he is a liberal or a republican? none, because to his family he is a hero.

15. I'll bet your friend's dad hated the GI Bill....
and all the other veterans' programs that this current Republican administration is destroying so that Paris Hilton can get a tax cut.

I'm sure he also took every penney and benefit that was offered to vets while he cursed about big government and tax-and-spend liberals.

16. My Dad served in USN both WWII (South Pacific theater, carrier) and Korea
And he was a Kennedy Democrat. When he passed away last summer he had a military honor guard at the cemetery.

My brother served in both the USN and USAF and was a Gore/Kerry voter.

So what was your friend's point about service and patriotism?
