FOR GODS SAKE There is DRY GROUND NEAR NO
How long would it take to set up a "tent city"?

30 Minute drive shuttling bus after bus out shouldn't take much time AT ALL!

I bet they could get port-a-pots delivered very quickly as well!

1. That's what I've been wondering, too.
Why are people being bussed out of the state (Astrodome) when tent cities (as in Bosnia and Kosovo)could have already been set up to this point and operational?

2. They don't want them there
They intende to raise vast stretches of the city, I believe, and are afraid the people will try to stop them.

If they do, and they try to send NG assets from where I live, I will certainly do anything in my power to stop them.

3. This is the "Urban Renewal" they have been salivating over
for DECADES..They have finally gotten all "those poor folks" out of New orleans..They WANT them gone permanently.. When Halliburton rebuilds NO, it will be a Stepford/Disney extravaganza.. no place for poor folks in their vision./

They need to scatter them far and wide, so they DON'T return.. and a side benefit? Fewer dems in congress/senate.. NO will never again be a democaratic bastion..It just turned Blood red

4. This is exactly right.
It's taken a decade to disney-ize a quadrant of DC here. Why wait for economic and social policy when you can do it all at once?

5. Apparently, many of them could walk across a bridge to what they need.
Edited on Sat Sep-03-05 02:14 PM by MissMarple
Near the convention center is a bridge across the Mississippi. On the other side is Gretna, La. According to Shepard Smith and Geraldo Rivera they could all walk to food, shelter, and medical care. Instead they were locked into the convention center and not allowed to leave by the national guard.

People staying at a hotel paid $25,000 for ten buses to take them out. The buses were confiscated and the people sent to the convention center.

What is going on here? Nothing makes any sense. None.

6. I agree, none of it makes sense
From turning away help to not activating the guard until Thursday.

Helicopters showed up today to airlift the convention center. They couldn't have dropped more supplies than could be fought over on TUESDAY?

None of it makes sense.

There's a picture in this slide show I haven't seen anywhere else. It's gruesome- showing the effects of Lake George on the feet of a child. Her nails were painted- this is a child that is loved.

Truly, I can understand a decision not to look, but it's accessed by clicking the photo at this article, past the ad, past the warning about disturbing photos, plate #10: "Zuri Franklin, 11, tries to dry her feet, wrinkled from days in the water"

8. I looked at every single one.
You know, the magnitude of this destruction would be daunting for any rescue and evacuation effort. But these guys (FEMA, Homeland inSecurity, and this criminally negligent administration) started from so far back and so egregiously and purposefully dragged their feet ...I just cannot express how I feel right now.

No American government should abandon its' citizens like that.

7. They're probably waiting for the chain-link fences to keep them IN.
Nothing would surprise me at this point.
