I was told to leave or be arrested
Edited on Sat Sep-03-05 01:24 PM by Bison William
I live in Fort Smith Arkansas and 360 people from NO have been shipped to an old army base outside our town.

The problem is the base barracks they have put the people in is listed as a toxic waste dump. The barracks are so inundated with lead paint that the people that have to get around them wear masks so they don't have to breathe the fumes coming off them.

There is no air conditioning and it is 95 degrees at this time of year. I am afraid some of the older people will die of stroke from the heat.

This morning I went out and snuck into the area where they are being kept and told many of the people that the buildings were poisonous and got many of them to promise to leave as quick as they could before I was told to leave or be arrested for inciting a riot..

When I say the building are poisonous you must believe me. They have been trying for years to find a way to destroy them but the EPA won't let them do it..If they burn them it will release lead into the air and it will settle in the lakes and streams around the area. They can't tear them down and send them to other places because no one wants poisonous wood..They ground around them is even poisonous from the lead wash off when it rains. So what does our Illustrious Repug Governor do,.. well he puts NO refuges in them... Ain't that america baby..

23. Found this:
The Fort Chaffee Redevelopment Authority (FCRA) was established to develop a set of recommendations for reutilization and development of the remaining property, including removal or disposal of more than 600 World War II-era temporary wood frame buildings comprising about 2 million square feet of floor space.

A number of unique characteristics of the property make redevelopment a costly endeavor. Fort Chaffee has over 700 buildings that must be demolished in order to encourage development. The buildings date from the World War II era and contain a significant amount of asbestos and lead. This hazardous material must be removed before the buildings can be demolished. The projected cost of the entire project is $22 million. And because the lead and asbestos do not pose an immediate threat to the safety of the community (and will not until the buildings come down), the Fort Chaffee Public Trust has been unsuccessful in finding federal funds through the EPA to help with this effort. Other infrastructure needs that must be addressed before the property is ready for reuse total another $10.6 million.

Is this the place?

25. Here is more reference to the infected blankets:
On 24 June 1763,] the commander of Fort Pitt gave representatives of the besieging Delawares two blankets that had been exposed to smallpox, in hopes of spreading the disease to the Indians in order to end the siege. Indians in the area contracted smallpox. It is impossible to verify how many people (if any) contracted the disease as a result of the Fort Pitt incident; the disease was already in the area and may have reached the Indians through other vectors. Even before the blankets had been handed over, the disease may have been spread to the Indians by native warriors returning from attacks on infected white settlements.

22. Here is a quote from our new city administrator
He won't last long after his remarks and he doesn't even know yet that the building are poisonous.

But Fort Smith City Administrator Bill Harding said Thursday evening that he wouldn't want to move them "from one hell hole to another."

"The barracks (at Fort Chaffee) are what they are," Harding said. "There are buildings out there with no heat, no air, no windows and that are falling down and should have been torn down a long time ago."

30. Can you get pictures of them taking the people there?
If you have a digital camera or video cam or know someone that does you could use to upload some pics this would get all over the internet. I will watch to see if there are pics coming out of this. I will distribute far and wide. I will save this link and watch for updates here. I hope you can get pics.
You are one courages son of a gun and what you are doing is commendable. Stay safe in your fight for the truth my friend.
I have taken pictures of stuff the Gov is doing around my neck of the woods in the past and it gets a little tricky and risky.
Nothing surprises me about this Nazi Government any more. It makes me sick.

Peace, MOM

32. I lived in barracks exactly like that when I was in the Army.
The WWII era barracks were all built to a single standard plan, and used the same materials. I was in them at a time when all paint was lead based.

That was over 40 years ago.

So based on the fact that I lived in barracks exactly like them and am still alive I have to conclude that you are extremely over rating the danger.

And, of course, there are the millions of WWII soldiers that lived in them and survived.

33. But, 40 years ago the paint was not so flaky and prone to become
dust that gets into the air and into people's lungs. It is especially bad for children.

Lead-based paint was taken off the market years ago because it was finally deemed to be toxic.
