Stopping the School Buses? Has anyone heard this latest tactic?
I'm in a Repub county and my son said that they're seriously considering discontinuing bus service for Public schools. First, if it's government's job to ration gasoline, wouldn't the school buses be a more efficient use of the resource?

Is this what happens when Republicans take over? Or are the Dem counties considering the same things?

1. We need to conserve fuel so the Asshole in Chief can
fly around in AF1 and look out the window at all the suffering. With a "concerned" look on his face of course.

Read an article somewhere in the last couple of days that several Florida counties are considering canceling bus services to schools next week because they have no gas.

Can't remember the exact source, but it was a Florida newspaper.

on edit:
Schools, cities face fuel shortage
Some governments and law enforcement are cutting services to conserve supplies.

Some students may have to find another way to school instead of taking the bus, and cops will be parking their cars and patrolling on foot amid a looming threat of fuel shortages caused by Hurricane Katrina.

A day after electric utilities pleaded with customers to conserve energy, local governments scrambled to do the same by finding ways to save fuel. State officials warned supplies are threatened by the devastation along the Gulf Coast, though the severity of the problem remains unclear.

Government and school leaders aren't ready to declare a fuel emergency, but what happens during the next several days will determine how drastic cutbacks will be.

"Today, we directed that all non-essential driving be eliminated," Volusia County Manager Cindy Coto said. "The next step would be to limit all vehicle use to mission-critical only."
