CNN debunking the LIES from Chertoff!
Edited on Sat Sep-03-05 01:51 PM by Walt Starr
Chertoff went off on how they could NOT "reasonably expect" the damage and direct hit on NO.

Meteorologist on CNN DEBUNKED THAT LIE by giving the timeline where the National Weather Service PREDICTED A CATEGORY 4 HURRICANE AT LANDFALL ON NEW ORLEANS 2 AND A HALF DAYS BEFORE THE STRIKE!!!

The information was there. Everybody KNEW THE SCENARIO, but Chertoff and Mike "FEMA Fred" Brown CHOSE TO IGNORE IT!!!

1. Exactly!
The media is sick of the American public being LIED to.

Good for CNN for a job well done.

6. looks like that's what it finally took, but........
anybody else here been burned so often over the last five years to be VERY wary of this as a momentary blip; an aberration, from which they'll return to their usual, fawning, credulous sycophancy?

I hope that's not the case, but I still think that this is what'll happend

it sure takes the edge off any wolfcries of terra events, at least in the short run

time to give the hoes a bit of positive reinforcement, though, so they know to salivate for doing a GOOD job, for a change

4. with evacuation HELP and bush "green lighting north. command" this story
would be MUCH different...

it was the delay by bush and not accepting aid coming into Lo.

32. I agree the Bush delay caused the rest of the machine to fail
to see a need for HURRYING.

The President SET THE TONE with which the rest of the government apparatus could respond to the disaster. His failure to end his vacation soon enough -- even going to AZ and then CA in the two days following Katrina's landfall -- said all the many agencies needed to hear about how URGENT this situation really was for them.

This is what a President DOES: he SETS THE TONE. He clues in everyone else under his command by how he responds.

They all saw how little he cared, how UNserious he considered this event; and even the ones whose job it is to hop into action FAST failed to be motivated by such a Presidential reaction.

THAT is what will be evident more clearly every day as the catastrophe continues to unfold, I believe.

23. Hope they are instead of Roberts hearings. Sandra said she
would stay as long as there is no replacement so it's obviously not as urgent as this one. I hope the Dems insist on that. Prioritize.

16. And Governor Blanco asked George for help on Sunday.
Governor Richardson of New Mexico offered his national guard, she accepted but need an OK from George, THAT didn't come until Thursday.

The apologists will try to say "It was the paper work, the paper work, ,the bureaucracy, we had to assess, ...yada, yada, yada."

Nonsense, it was the politics, it's alway the politics with this criminally negligent administration.

They crippled it and destroyed it, and replaced it with...nothing.

27. Hell they knew a huge storm was in the gulf for a week didn't they?
What day did it hit Florida?
The thing dumped a huge amount of water even as a category 1.
It was slow moving and huge it was pretty obvious even to me that it was headed in the direction of LA and Mississippi.
Cat 1 hits land and doesn't slow down before moving out into overly warm water? Kind of a no brainer IMO

I know its hard to believe our government is this inept, but they are.

- they do not believe in federal agencies/depts (repub.dogma)
- they believe only people who are working, have money/property are deserving of anything, and that would be things they can buy
- 'pick yourself up by your bootstraps or die' - repub. motto

its government at its worst, and I know its hard to believe, but we are seeing the result of extreme republicanism

31. Chertoff apparently never looked at media from Fri 26 on. It was full of
doomsday predictions for NOLA 24/7. Homeland Security apparently doesn't watch the news. Or liaison with local jurisdictions. Which renders them entirely and completely worthless in the case of an emergency. And this one was predicted days in advance.

These guys are so used to issuing baldfaced lies and having the media and too many people buying what they say that they can't understand that this time, with millions displaced and dead and dying folks shown on TV, too many people know they're just lying. And even the corporate media is hardpressed to go along this time.
