I mean table-top role-playing gamers. Put US in charge of agencies like FEMA. Not only couldn't we do any worse, but any good gamer is a master of improvisation...working with materials at hand to do something unexpected.
This may sound like a joke, but it's not. People just don't get it. You may have spent your high school years making fun of the D&D geek, but I'm willing to bet that, assuming s/he's any good at all, s/he would've had ten different operable plans on the table within an hour of the hurricane hitting NOLA.
You're talking about some of the most creative people on the planet. In the top percentiles in math and language. Expert scroungers and thinkers outside-the-box. We need people like THIS in charge, not pathetic yes-men who have to wait for explicit instruction to do even the WRONG thing. Not people who have shown a remarkable ability to screw up the simplest tasks.
This country needs leadership and people who can think on their feet. We have neither.

3. Many computer games as well |
|
There are a lot of games that are great simulations.... Sim City comes to mind, but others set in different time periods are good to at making the player think through the consequence of their actions.... Tropico also comes to mind (Pharoah, Civilization.... et al)

but they dropped the ball because the people in charge just don't get it.
I'm not talking about a simulation to prepare...I'm talking about people who can think fast and put things together on the fly. A simulation is only as good as the people who analyze the data and implement the information.
This bunch failed.

Good political leaders have a lot of the same skills that are fostered in gaming.
