The Apocaplypse President
OK, this isn't really new information, but I was just sitting here thinking about all the shit that has happened since Bush's 'election' in 2000 that I would never have imagined happening here. We can start with at least one illegitimate presidential election and just go on from there...the 9/11 attacks, the creation of the Department of Homeland Security (remember when they first announced that and it sounded too Orwellian to be real? And now we just keep talking about it like it's normal) the PATRIOT Act, the Christian right getting control over not just the government but the public sphere as well, the media atrophying to banana republic standards, and now...we have just LOST a major city, and people are dying in the streets thanks to the government's criminally incompetent response.

I mean think about it. There is no New Orleans any more. Did you ever think that in your lifetime, you would wake up one day and find that one of our major cities was just gone? And that while it disappeared, our idiot president would be whiling away the hours eating cake in Arizona?

We went through the looking glass in 2000 and I don't know how we're ever going to get back. What is it going to be like for our kids? How many things are we going to have to explain to them about because they won't have known them?

"Well, honey, there used to be a city called New Orleans down on the Gulf Coast. This was back before sodomy became a capital crime, you know, and before the Tower of God's Power collapsed because it was built by 'faith-based engineering.' It was a fascinating place, produced by the confluence of a bunch of different traditions and populations, a real manifestation of the richness of our history, something unique that was all the more precious because it made something good out of some really ugly parts of our history. What ugly parts? Well...OK, you wouldn't know about slavery because they don't teach you guys much history any more, but...well, all right, let's just say that those people your teachers tell you were always happy and singing all day long down on the plantations because they knew they were just doing the work the Lord had assigned them to as children of Ham, well, that's a crock of...sorry, honey, I'll start again. There used to be a place called New Orleans, down on the Gulf Coast, where they had the best food in the world, wonderful music, this big party called Mardi Gras...that's a Catholic thing...well, all right, there used to be a Catholic church that actually had real people in it, this was before the cardinals all went crazy and started excommunicating the divorced people and anyone who had ever used birth control...actually, honey, you know, there still is a Catholic church, it's just that the only people left in it are three 90-year-old cardinals and Pope Benedict The Cryogenically Frozen...I'm sorry, I'm wandering again. There used to be a city called New Orleans..."

I don't know what world is going to be born out of this mess but at the moment I don't think I'm going to like it. Would rather have the old world back, messy as it was.

Enough already with the cataclysmic world-destroying events! God, even for a two-term president, Bush has already REACHED HIS LIMIT! What's next, another great depression?

OK, forget I said that,

The Plaid Adder

2. Heartfelt kick.

Nice post. And yeah, a severe depression isn't out of the question. Certainly, large numbers of foreclosures as interest rates rise (to control inflation triggered by soaring energy prices) and all those "interest only" adjustable-rate mortgages go through the roof followed by an epidemic of bank failures as banks are stuck with billions in noncollectable debt which will then bankrupt the FDIC and cause a global run on U.S. treasury bonds--well, you see where I'm going. I'm trying to convince my wife to stock up on canned goods and keep our money in the mattress.

3. ...more to come
Who knows what else we can expect. In 2000, we all kind of shuddered in imagining four years of this idiot. In 2004, we were in a deep depression after the stolen vote in Ohio.
Now in 2005, the list keeps growing with daily additions.
Our worst fears, it turns out, weren't quite as bad as the outcome - and it's only 2005!! Call it apocalyptic, catacylsmic, beyond anything we feared.
Eight years of a government by a cabal of thugs led by a sub-human fool.
God have mercy.
