The fires in New Orleans
We were watching CNN show the fires and the fire boats trying to put them out, and we were wondering why they haven't put out a request for water bombers to help put out these fires. I'm not sure about B.C., but the forest fire situation in NW Ontario is pretty much nil right now, and these water bombers are available. They request them every year for the fires in California, and with Lake Pontchartrain being right there they'd have a ready supply of water to use. Does anyone know why this assistance hasn't been requested? Or maybe it has and I'm not aware of it?

5. I actually had a guy at work talking about it being sad that other
countries had to offer help to us. As if we are supposed to do everything alone.

3. Some firefighter group (state?) offered, were turned down.
I have no link, but read this in the last couple days. Sorry for no link but the internets have been pretty wild. For those who know me, I don't pass on rumors. Some state or firefighter group offered, were turned down. I am not sure why.

4. Was this a group with water bombers?
Those things are highly effective in putting out forest fires; I have to believe they'd be very useful in putting out the fires in warehouses, etc. Why chance letting these fires spread? This is so frustrating!

6. Yes, and I am really sorry I have no link.
I have read too many things on too many places these last few days. I focus on "reputable" sources by the way. I think they were just going to let them burn, use the resources elsewhere but that made no sense either.

7. look at the thread titled "Landrieu slams FEMA"
From that thread:
Landrieu slams FEMA

Landrieu said that FEMA has inexplicably failed to take advantage of offers of help. "I understand that the U.S. Forest Service had water-tanker aircraft available to help douse the fires raging on our riverfront, but FEMA has yet to accept the aid. When Amtrak offered trains to evacuate significant numbers of victims - far more efficiently than buses - FEMA again dragged its feet," Landrieu said. "Offers of medicine, communications equipment and other desperately needed items continue to flow in, only to be ignored by the agency.

Looks like another case of FEMA blocking help.
