Pat Buchanan: "Who lost New Orleans?"
he says that this will be as big a negative as was 9/11 a positive in Pres. Dumbass' first term

cites all the failures/lack of preparedness that have occurred on his watch

McLaughlin quote the Union Leader editorial excoriating dumbo, and Eleanor Clift mentions all the spots he visited after Katrina hit, before he bothered to 'deal' with the situation

now Tony Blankely is up, and I'll bet he's a stauch KookAider

1. Thing is, the response was the same as 9/11.
No preparation except to ignore the evidence.

Talk afterwards, promises, no action.

New York dug itself out, with the help of Americans across the country. Bush took the photo op and the credit, but all he did was bail out the airlines, whose negligence made them liable for huge damages. In doing so, he basically worked a tort reform just for the WTC. Take what we want to give you without knowing what it will be, but to find out, you have to sign away your right to sue.

Bush did nothing for New York. We had to fight for every promised dime, and then he reneged on health care for our rescuers, the people who really did help.

There is no contrast between 9/11 and New Orleans. Bush did nothing till he was forced to, both times.

2. yeah, but..........
the difference is that so many people still ignore the fact that they knew so much ahead of time with 9/11.

With Katrina, everyone knew ahead of time what a disaster it was gonna be.

15. True, but
9/11 was scripted and pre planned. Katrina was an act of nature.

4. Exactly. It is now a completely accepted myth that Bush was "strong"
after 9/11. Maybe people bought that because they were scared and wanted somthing to grasp on to. But it's complete nonsense. Anybody could have done the photo-op on the rubble. I think people were so shocked by the complete contrast with what we had come to expect under the intelligent, competent, and articulate Clinton that they just went into some kind of denial, which passed into the "strong" myth, which now is accepted as fact.

6. Anyone that saw his reaction in the FL classroom, and then later
that day at that disastrous press conference could not possibly believe Bush was a strong leader. Of course Rove and the media replaced that reality with the manufactured image of Bush in New York several days after the crisis had passed.

7. you hit it right there.....and the media are doing all they can, despite
a few who'll be weeded out soon, to bring the sheep back in line, the way they did after 911

5. One contrast -
Bush and his ass hat Administration orchestrated 9/11. The disaster in N.O. was an act of nature.

3. Elephant in the room:
It is just so telling that ANYONE would EVER portray 9/11 as a POSITIVE in ANY WAY.
Idiots.

13. Maybe
it's their collective guilt, over the deliberate murder of 3,000 plus people for political motives.

9. Maybe even the true believers will re-evaluate 911 now
This is the sort of event (the hurricane disaster) that makes and breaks ruling classes. Historically, when leadership fails on this scale, it forfeits the right to lead.

10. I hope you're right, and there is precedent for what you say....
Johnstown Flood, etc, but things are so much different now, so much more Bernaysian/Goebbellian/Orwellian/Rovian, that it's impossible to predict how things will swing

being basically negatively oriented, and having seen the way the media responds as it acts in consort with those who wield real power, I have little faith that things will end well. Even if they, somehow, start to lose their grip on power, I'm very afraid that they'll do ANYTHING to let it slip away, and stealing elections is one of the least destructive things I can envision

don't think you're ranting, think you hit the nail on the head. I've had a feeling for a long time that Shrub is only a puppet, that some one else, or some organization, is running things in the shadows. Not defending Bush, it's just that he's too clueless and stupid to be any thing other than a puppet, dancing to some one else's tune.
